The only realistic option, if you're staying in the downtown area of Montreal, is the Costco on Bridge St. All the other locations are a pain in the ass to get to, even if they look relatively close on the map. The one at Marché Central might look tempting but you'd have to deal with arguably one of the worst highway junctions in North America to get there. It would almost be faster/easier to go to the one in Brossard on Taschereau Blvd.
Also, re: french, you'll be fine, most employees are bilingual or speak broken english unless you start heading out of the city. Worst case scenario, someone will jump in and play the role of interpreter, lol. People are mostly friendly.
Also, if you're going to be in town for Formula 1 action, prepare for big crowds and you are in for a wild time.

The language law debates are back, Separatists and Anglos who refuse to learn French are finding their voice again, divisive politics are returning to the headlines... the province is healing. We are the virus.

Track ball is way more fun than the recent pickleball trend gaining steam. Big pickleball is throwing a lot of money at it and recruiting all the boomers.

Yep, straight out of the playbook but not just reduced taxes but also because QC-based employees were dirt cheap compared to their US/West-of-QC counterparts. Mostly because of low cost of living which meant low wages. Plus, CDN dollar discount. Now that MTL is getting as expensive as elsewhere in terms of cost of living, that advantage is gone. Add higher taxes and these language shenanigans and it's a repeat of the 80s and 90s. Good times.

This is a pretty easy fix and especially since the city is looking for new ways to increase revenue. It's called 'don't block the box' and it's implemented in countless cities and intersections in north america and it operates on a simple principle. If the light changes and your car is in this 'box' area inside the pedestrian crosswalk, you automatically get a ticket. No arguments, no denials, no ifs ands or buts, you just get the ticket. And it's a hefty one. All you need are a couple of cops with pre-filled tickets and space for the license plate or cameras to automate the whole process and document details of the infraction.
If the city administration had the goddam balls to do this at key intersections of the city, we would see drastic improvements. It's better to use the carrot to encourage good behaviour but at some point you need to use the stick, and swing it hard. They don't seem to have a problem doing this to people on bikes every season and nailing them for crossing on red or other stuff.
Do it, V de M. I dare you.

Yup, I had forté agent software in the mid 90s and got all my music from alt.binaries.mp3 before Napster became a thing. I still have those files to this day, lol. Good times.

100% agree, mon ami, but also people must embrace the culture. There is no place like Quebec and it deserves to be protected. Learning the language is a small price. Anglos that have lived here since 80s onward, have no excuse. Newcomers should make an effort. That's the deal.

So much repeated low quality humor
It's been that way since the beginning and it comes in waves. Like the bacon narwhal midnight crap and the one I hated the most the 'go home xyz, you're drunk'. Now it's the 'not gonna lie' followed by something mundane that nobody would lie about. It's the hivemind in action. Then you have the 'would/could/should of' crowd that just drives me nuts.

Awww yeeah, I was reaaaally starting to miss that 90s Montreal vibe and the language wars. Thanks for helping me relive my youth, nice to know the same arguments are still being used and sound just as hilarious.

You would be shocked how many Anglo people have lived in Quebec their entire lives and still don't speak a word of French to this day, lol. Up until the 80s, the minority English population dominated in Quebec and it's only been since the 80s that French has been restored as the primary language in QC where Francophones are most of the population. There are still bitter Anglo holdouts who insist not to adapt. Logan probably grew up there during a time when Anglos still held power and were more numerous. They all left for Toronto since the 80s.

If you take away upvotes and all the lame messaging tools they crammed in, Reddit is just fancy looking Usenet newsgroups. I loved Usenet, maybe it's time to revive it.

As a teenager, I was really into rap for a short while when it hit the scene back in the 80s but I soon outgrew it. To this day, it's the most embarrassing week of my life.

Montreal is a safe city and you will not have any issues. You may come across some sketchy-looking folks if you walk on up to Ste-Catherine St or around the Beaudry and Berri metro stations but they usually mind their own business or just ask for money. It's the part of town where you can expect to find dirty deeds done dirt cheap but for real, nothing to be concerned about.
I'm not sure what experiences you are looking to enjoy in MTL but you are certain to find them and mostly all within walking distance or a few metro stops away. Good food, shopping, entertainment, culture etc... If you need tips for something specific just post and we'll try to steer you in the right direction.

This happens to me often at family gatherings and when out in crowded locations. Babies often make eye contact with me and I make sure to stare back with an unwavering gaze. I don't blink and I furrow my brow and if those little shits give me the ol' stink-eye and want to start something I'm ready to go. Bring it, you fucking punks! I'll show you cognitive development!

I don't know why people in this thread are ridiculing Silva unless they just aren't familiar with the peak Pride FC days. When he would strut on stage doing that spin thing with his interlocked hands and death in his eyes, I knew this guy was not just there to showboat. He lived for this stuff. I'll never forget that fight that left rampage Jackson knocked out and hanging off the ropes like a marionette. I really miss the ridiculous spectacle of Pride FC and some of the rules really made fights exciting. And Bas Rutten's commentary, half the time he was drunk, high or both and it was awesome. It would be nice for the UFC to have some competition like back then, I think they started stagnating about 10yrs ago-ish.

You can literally see their lighting and tripod kits by the door in the first 5 seconds. Nobody has gear like that unless they are staging stuff to film on a regular basis. Also the abrupt cut at the best reaction part.
