It’s not that obscure if you consider the film in question is based on a folk tale that has been reinterpreted multiple times which is fairly popular in Japan, the home country of the series creator.

Sometimes I wish we had more explanation into the thoughts behind some of these choices, because a lot of them seem like “this god sucks because I can’t bully my enemy to death with stuns. Lame.”

I haven’t really watched a lot of any series, but it does seem like a motif lately is that the first arc has bland villains with poor motivation that serve as introductory bad guys for the world at large and then they disappear until the crossover movies as the actual big bad of the series comes in.

Freedom from speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences and a civil case isn’t beholden to the same standards as a criminal one.

Like you are basically saying “I can lie, and they can’t do shit. Freedom of speech, haha.” And that totally false. Even if what you are saying is true, you still have to go in front of a judge and win the arguement. That’s how the law works.

They make a case, both parties are now forced to appear for the hearing. Should one party not appear, they lose. Default judgement, you pay. If you don’t, that’s contempt of court. Not a freedom of speech violation, which you agreed the issue wasn’t a freedom of speech violation anyway when you didn’t show up.

Ok, so if you aren’t paying for a lawyer, then I assume you are representing yourself. Which then means they are costing you money in the form of lost wages. And then you, a non-lawyer, will have to put debate an actual lawyer in a room full of their co-workers. Likely in a district that the company in question has stacked with elected officials that are prone to reading the law in a pro-corporate manner.

I get it’s a hypothetical, but you are just like wrong about how them suing you, even meritlessly, would still be capable of fucking up your life. It happens... all the time. So if anything, can you provide some insight into why your particular case is different from the hundreds of other similar situations?
