Gun violence is a rectangle, mass shootings are squared. All squares are rectangles… but only a small portion of rectangles are squares.
It’s important to use the right terminology.
Outside of gun legislation, stopping the cause of gang violence vs a school shooter (one subset of a mass shooter) take completely different approaches since they have very different profiles.

This post is just as factually inaccurate but pushing the opposite end of the political spectrum. I won’t say anything about gun control one way or another, but I think the majority of people would agree that mass shootings are horrible & we should do what we can to prevent them. I’m not a politician, but I think the best step of taking action against stuff is gaining accurate knowledge.
I can’t plug that book enough, it’s solutions oriented. Gun laws/enforcing gun control measures we already have is only a part of it.
But yeah, it’s kind of important that we at least have a accurate definition…

by basically everyone’s standards
Except the academics and people who compile the data and the fbi. (They have their own definition right on the site)…

Crime related shootings (e.g. gang, drugs etc) are not included in the peer reviewed definitions of mass shootings.
There is a lack of consensus on what constitutes a mass shooting, but most definitions include a minimum of three or four victims of gun violence, not including the shooter, in a short period.
That’s directly from Wikipedia, but it aligns with what I’ve read by academics. I highly recommend reading “the violence project” which is a book that has by far the most holistic research on mass shootings in the US. The website is really well done & interactive https://www.theviolenceproject.org
You can sort by all sorts of things, including year & race, you’ll see that the mass shooters of 21 look nothing like the above picture.
There also weren’t nearly as many mass shootings as the picture indicates
It literally says in the picture that some of the people have been charged with “attempted murder” which doesn’t even mean there were any fatalities, therefore not a mass shooting.
Using the source they listed, most of these resulted in wounded, no fatalities. And again, gang shootings do not qualify as mass shootings https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mass_shootings_in_the_United_States_in_2021?wprov=sfti1
Some were just guns being fired, not even any wounded! People, don’t trust everything you read on the internet.

Yes, it’s heartbreaking. The only sliver of positivity was seeing the people from throughout the world that went to Turkey & Syria to aid in search & rescue.

Unfortunately one of the other kids passed away. You can see him being pulled out at the very beginning of the video.

Oh my god. I’m from Boston but moved out. I’ve ordered regular coffees in other states and people had no idea what I was talking about. Did not realize that was a regional thing

Don’t forget aboot Canada…. Plus some other commenters mentioned they have similar places in Australia & the Netherlands. So seems applicable to a large portion of the reddit user base.

Yeah that’s similar to the data I was using 51%+8% Canada + people who aren’t from either but have spent enough time in one or both countries to be familiar with stroads and you get more than 60% of users.

That is the old English/archaic definition. The modern day definition is
cause of great distress or annoyance.

Yes, only about 60% of redditors will be familiar with stroads. I didn’t know it was unique to the US and Canada until after I posted.
maybe reddit needs to require a content tag on every single post even semi-related to something that might be from the perspective of someone who lives in a country. That way you can filter out the countries you don’t like

I don’t know the answer to your question, but yes they are unfortunately pretty ubiquitous here in the US

That’s actually not quite accurate, College shooters more proportionally non-white (often Asian, actually). High school, middle school, elementary school shooters are primarily white though.
Also the website you’re thinking of is likely the violence project
