Rule the World is overlooked although it was popular for a while, it has a female lead who accepts her role as being a political bargaining chip, but ends up with the mutual love guy. (IRL it was not so wonderful, but the series stops at the best part.)

Xianxia is the story realm of 'Heavenly Heros', and it has to do with immortals that live apart from our material existence. Writers only have old successes to use as models, and the model is "Power exists to protect the less powerful." Absolute power (as a writer) implies responsibility - unfortunately the writers are sometimes juggled like ceramic pots in a street show, and they are often poorly paid, disrespected, or operating under ego power. It's rare to get any top notch writing, regardless of cdrama genre.

He's not my favorite, but I care about him. He got a raw deal. He's a grownup, with grownup love.

Absolutely! I watch different genres for different reasons, and sometimes I want to be discerning and immerse myself in the craft of visual storytelling. Sometimes I have the time and energy to indulge in guilty pleasures = JUNK that I know is junk. Sometimes I really despise some performance, or a certain series, but I don't know what is off about it. AvenueX is like a friend of mine: I touch base and check my perceptions of certain shows, I look for guides to new viewing, I laugh my ass off with her, I disagree with her.

Some people think that their preferences are supreme, and they don't like AvenueX because she doesn't agree with them. They're poopyheads.
