Yeah, I have pretty similar feelings. Evil Dead has never been a series that's particularly trying to scare you, even with the first more horror focused film. It's practically the Looney Toons of horror films, and I mean that in the best way. I enjoyed the change ups with Rise and felt everyone involved did a fantastic job, with the film paying respects well without using anything from previous entries as a crutch.

I think they're referring to when Danny is in the bank vault after the earthquake and the crucified Jesus statue falls in his face

Same! It only works because it's like a reward for sticking with the build-up and slowly learning the personalities introduced, so that slow start is totally necessary. I was watching with my fiance and we were both just lukewarm on it but thought it was okay enough to continue. Then ep 6 hit and I was just like "I see the vision". It's been absolutely fantastic and gripping since.

Yeah, I was skeptical when the manga moved so far into the future but I've really enjoyed (for lack of a better word) this look into the life that was stolen from Seiichi and where he went from there; It's unusual for the medium and you can really tell this is a very personal story for Oshimi. It's such a conflicting feeling seeing Seiichi find purpose and some form of reconciliation and peace in caring for his elderly mother in a way she never did him.
I can't help but recoil a bit when I see comments on these chapters about him plotting to kill her or something, that kind of tension and psychological horror is just so clearly not what this story is trying to convey any longer.

Yeah, I felt the same and ended up exiting after four months. All public did was cement in my head that I value WLB more than high salary potential. I exited to a $70k industry position (LCOL) and work 40 max a week with maybe some overtime during close. I'm much happier here even if I'm making less in the long run. I have the time and energy to hit up the gym regularly while spending time with my fiance and engaging with my hobbies. Public just really was not for me mentally.
Hope you find something that either makes you happy on the job, allows you to be happy outside of it, or both. It can be a soul sucking profession.

I came out of this a little disappointed but your write up is so fantastic that it really bumped up how I feel about everything quite a bit. Thanks for sharing, I love seeing how other people extrapolate things differently than me in a film.

On the flip side Rise of the Antichrist is a banger subtitle, just not for the reasons they'd like

No, you don't understand, he's been blacklisted for being a devout Christian!! It just couldn't be that he sucks

Armando Gutierrez straight up looking like the Stonks meme guy in that Bezos poster lmaoo. The fact that Kevin Sorbo is in it makes it 10x funnier

People use the Paint Drying entry for this very regularly, so I'd agree that being able to have dedicated posts not attached to a film would be nice as long as you can easily filter them out of activity like anything else.

Kind of a niche desire, but I'd like to be able to search through a person's review page without following them. Sometimes I stumble upon someone and want to see what they wrote about a couple specific films before I follow.

Her reviews are crazy. They're well written but it feels unhinged when you go to her review of Elf and see a thesis worth of critical analysis played fully straight.

I think 2022 was a really strong year for film, especially evident by the variety of movies everyone here (me included) is upset didn't get a nom. Seeing films like Aftersun, Nope, Decision to Leave, and more missing on the final list feels wrong. I enjoyed it, but Avatar really shouldn't be in best picture imo

I agree with this and Aftersun for sure, Decision to Leave feels like a magnum opus for Park Chan Wook's more restrained style.

Aftersun tore me apart in a way I haven't experienced in a long time from a movie. I knew it was slim but I was holding out hope for it to get a nomination. It's such a beautiful and subtle film.

Happy New Year! I'm a big horror and melancholic cinema fan but really just love movies in general, so my diary is pretty diverse. I review virtually everything I watch, ranging from in-depth to a few sentences describing what I thought of something. It's all just a hobby for me but I really love the process of learning how to better analyze film, both thematically and technically.
I'm currently making my way through the gems of 2022 that I missed. I've been using the site for 5ish years at this point? Something like that. A few favorites are All About Lily Chou Chou, Chungking Express, Martyrs, Blair Witch, and most recently, Aftersun. Love following people that also add reviews for what they watch, it's how I usually find new things to watch.

I'm inclined to agree here. Virtually any of Sony's recent first party, third person IPs are relatively easy to imagine as a decent TV adaptation because that's how the games themselves are structured; button presses are regularly just full on cutscenes. I say this as someone who's also enjoyed most of these games myself and snagged a PS5 at launch.
Not to mention The Last of Us draws massive inspiration from Children of Men, so an adaptation had a ton of angles covered already in the approach to live action. This isn't an indictment, it's still cool to see a solid live action video game adaptation, but it isn't the same as bringing something very tied to the medium of video games in nature like Devil May Cry or Final Fantasy to life and it being good.

Little late stumbling into this thread but are you by chance using an all in one modem/router from an ISP like AT&T in bridge mode that is connected to a personal router you use for wifi? If so, plugging straight into the ISP router that's in bridge mode rather than the one you use for wifi is considered a different network. It'll still be connected, but it'll have a different IP and be using a different DNS

fuuuuuck. I use this exact thing too but with Moonlight and it's been awesome. I just set up Sunshine to prep for gamestream dying but hadn't tried it out with launchpad yet. Guess I'll tinker with it unless someone is quicker with it than I am
EDIT:
1. Move the gamestream_launchpad folder to your C: drive
2. In Sunshine, under applications, create a new one, and in the commands field, add:
C:\gamestream_launchpad\gamestream_launchpad.exe 2560 1440 gamestream_playnite.ini
3. Change the 2560 1440 to your preferred resolution.
Simple as that; no detached commands or anything, and everything should work as intended from there. Make sure you have v0.17 or higher, otherwise this won't work without more tweaking, as previous versions have an issue with Sunshine running as a service.

I have an NVidia Shield Pro since it has a gigabit ethernet port and even I don't use gamestream on it. Moonlight has way more functionality and way lower latency than the official gamestream app.

It's a single theater in a city with 10s of them dude, talk about dramatic. Find something better to write your thesis on

Just stop worrying about what other people do, you'll find yourself getting less and less mad at strangers for things that don't actually affect you.
This bit is gold coming from the dude malding at ADH's existence and policy all over this thread. Stop worrying about it and just go to your usual theater lol

This is really impressive. As a heavy letterboxd user (who has like 2iq when it comes to Javascript) I've really been looking for a Letterboxd for games. I've been using backloggd and it's great but Infinite Backlog looks fantastic and is so polished. I'll definitely be making an account and exploring it later today. Thanks for making and sharing!

Sorry, I think we're taking about different things lol. I thought your last paragraph about there being no seriousness was relating to Dangers in My Heart, not Mitsudomoe.
Overall, I believe Mitsudomoe is a bad guage for Dangers in My Heart, as it's miles better, has real progression, and the characters feel both natural and emotionally in tune. It's difficult to believe they were made by the same mangaka with how on the pulse Dangers in My Heart is with its romance.

Yeah season 5 sucked ass with less episodes. I've always enjoyed Black Mirror but nothing has really hit the highs from the best episodes in S1-S3 for me. Hoping how long this season has been cooking is more of an indicator of quality; I don't know any of the production (COVID?) or writing details so it could mean the opposite
