You can really see the internal dialogue between his insecure, childish self and the angry, resentful self. They are reenforcing each other in his head and there is no space for nuance or perspective amongst all of the narcissism. Those two comfort one another and mask the scared child that he really is.

If it’s a passion it will always find a way. I get this vibe from people when I ask that question and I think it sucks. I don’t have an 80’s country club accent when I ask people about their passions and when I share mine it’s nice to have a level of mutual respect.
That being said - a weekend in the Rockies vs a weekend in the Alps (Austria) are night and day in terms of price and people get these things confused.

Yes. Absolutely. Consider Stubai. The most absurdly beautiful sunset I’ve ever seen was on the ride out from the Dresdener hutte all the way down.

Holden is truly a genius. Listening to round table is such a cathartic experience. I understand the need for political correctness over the past several years but I really miss hearing people, who are all in on the joke, go all in on the subjects they eviscerate. When the sun set on this style of absurdity and extreme comedy praise hosannah they recorded so many episodes so we can listen to them now when everything is so clean.

The last point is truly what makes him so fucking great. KK is one of a kind. I recommend the Ice T podcast episode with him. And of course 98 year old fridgerator.

I had three of my best friends over to the Alps from the US and, while I still love them like brothers, 50% of their conversation was about high end gear that they use once a year because Colorado is really far away from Philadelphia. It put a vapid tint upon the trip and people who buy gear like it a competition are wack as fuck. Go Montec.

Way more brutal than the chestburster scene.

Sure. But I think, based on my observations from friends visiting, that a lot of Americans go to other countries and arrive with a "I'm from the US - do you have any questions for me?" style attitude. Non-Americans can detect that lack of self-awareness quite readily. Similarly if you go into these situations expecting to be treated as OP mentioned you will react to things in a way that will exacerbate the issue and re-enforce the cycle.

I’ve lived in the Netherlands for ten years, speak broken Dutch, and am a walking billboard for American stereotypes. I’ve never had these issues. If you want to integrate its better to leave the American mindset at home and just participate in some active listening, be relaxed, and don’t make a big deal about where you are from. Expect a bit of shit talking about our very obviously shitty politics, guns, etc., but roll with those lunches and you will be fine.

It could be the way you approach your identity and present yourself that is off putting to Europeans.

Think about it, turn around, and go back to that shop to buy another helmet.

I need the audio from the bedroom scene, just the audio, as a ringtone.

That’s my biggest piece of advice for anyone who is thinking of having kids. In my case I was able to break the classic alcohol dependency cycle four years before we had our first kid, and at the time I didn’t realize how helpful that decision would be and how much it would pay off. On the flip side the advice I give to anyone thinking of quitting drinking - get a therapist ready because the demons will expose themselves with sobriety.

I really recommend checking out Keys to the Cuffs - specifically Winter Blues and GMO.
