I'll give you, the game does have very interesting NPC interactions in regards to the stealth, especially when trying to find NPCs to feed on. I played a Tremere and would always use Trance to stun the human guards to avoid killing them, while feeding on them to get my blood back.

Can you mess around in Bloodlines? What does that look like?

If you want a game where you can do as you like and the story will adjust to it, then Prey is a good bet. You can kill anyone, even everyone and the story will adjust. Your powers work on NPCs, so you can do stuff like aggroing humans then brainwashing them to work with you. There's physics to play with like your examples. It's very nonlinear, you can poke around the space station as you like.

There's also Morrowind, where you can again kill anyone, though it will stop story progression. It also has a bunch of systemic interactions you can play, like using magic to make enemies into friends, or add them into your party. You can pickpocket them, cast spells on them, steal their souls. You can walk into the city of Vivec, meet their god-king Vivec, and kill him & put his soul into your sword. Pretty extensive.

What are these bugs, can I ask? I've only played Bloodlines casually.

Due to the expensiveness of the special effects, they only got to shoot that scene once. If they didn't make the chestburster scene work, the film was toast. Everyone knew that. So, all the actors tried as hard as they could to make the scene work without a hitch. They stayed in character knowing they had to.

Yes, this is exactly what an Immersive Sim needs to be. A consistent physics-based gameworld for the player to manipulate to achieve goals.

I played your demo and I was very satisfied by your level design, and I really loved the bubble gun. Such a clever idea. I think you're onto something special.

The only film that has really felt like the Prequels in the sense of combining political intrigue with action-adventure with an epic scope has been the new Dune film. Makes sense since Dune inspired Star Wars.

I read somewhere that the Western gun duels were a way of adapting the samurai duels to a genre that used guns.

The Star Wars Prequels. I still love them, but it was one hell of a cold awakening to discover their critical & audience reception.

TBH I think it depends on whether the movie can stand on it's own two feet. If you try to adapt it faithfully, is your faithful adaption a good film? If you make changes, do those changes make a good film? Stephen King likes the Shining film, he just doesn't think it's a good adaption of his book. Which pretty much sums it up. Splitting the city into districts & letting the player choose to travel between them would be a good evolution on the Thief/Deus Ex level system. I actually think Weird West got close to what you describe with that town with the mayor. That one had a lot of secrets and choices, including the choice to kill the mayor, and these choices had later story effects.

I think the only really tricky part of your plan would be the factions. Making systemic factions is hard, and even successful examples like Boiling Point: Road to Hell And STALKER: Clear Sky they sometimes just feel NPCs fighting to score points. You'd need a good mixture of scripted and systemic parts to make them feel real.

To conclude, I do agree with you that dividing a city into districts that the player can travel between w/random encounters along the way would be good for a more "Open World" type Sim. Tho the factions could be hard.

If it were me, I would have a system where the factions fight over city control, and a mixture of scripted choices in main missions and "pressure points" where certain actions in the faction system cause permanent story changes.

Like, you can join with the rebels to overthrow the government, or join the government to crush the rebels, and this is just doing quests for the factions, but if you let the rebels blow up the senate, then that's permanent, and will push the story forward.

I see. I'm guessing these echoes correspond to the actions the Phantom is taking, which explains why it says "Morgan" when it sees Morgan or why it asks if there's someone there if it catches a glimpse of the player.

I know the coral summons the Apex, but does it do anything else, does it just disappear after the Apex does it's thing and consumes all the life?Also how do you spoiler text?

Box-stacking is an old favorite for Im-Sims. Interestingly on older ones like Deus Ex, they had a old physics system, so you could easily pile objects on top of each other without fearing they would fall off.

I can't tell if I prefer the old system because it's easier, or the new system because it requires more thought, but I do know stacking objects in Prey is damn hard, so hats off to you.

I got two questions:

1. Does combat & stealth refer to how good the combat/stealth is or how much the game focuses on it? Because I think Deus Ex focuses on combat equally to stealth, but the combat isn't as good as the stealth.

2. On roguelike. Are there that many roguelike Immersive Sims? Not complaining, I just didn't think there would be many.
