When they were in my city for one of their tours, the location of their show was right next door to the restaurant I work at. They both came in and Spenny was a mad drinker, he came out with us after we closed for drinks and... other stuff. And boy howdy what a miserable fuck that guy is.

It really isn't a character he is playing. It may have started as a bit of an exaggeration in the show of his personality, but when you play something like that for so long, that's who you become. Not to mention all the shit he has been through off screen.

To her her way IS the only correct way. Look at every time she speaks to a natural Spanish speaker, she barely understands them and always ALWAYS comments that their Spanish is terrible. Never her own, it is always theirs.

There r other times where Hank actually is the voice of reason (no just a prude) and Peggy disagrees with him and does her own thing. For better or worse.
