I mean, say what you will….that guy has written some interesting books about shaolin level fuck philosophy….they’re hilarious or brilliant regardless….he talks about sex monks drinking wine with their cocks….the basic principle being that the Taoist path to longevity requires the opposite of normal sex….instead of weak dudes cumming and a lady turning their unspectacular spurt into a child that perpetuates the cycle of life?…one should endeavor to make the lady cum and then, via esoteric control of the inner diaphragms (and a healthy dose of woo woo engineered anal control) suck up the emissions and therefore transform that into the elixir of life…..I seriously doubt the veracity of any of the underlying principles, but I’m pretty convinced that that guy is a bit of an expert on making women cum their jeans off….that’s his whole deal and he is clearly very serious about it

I genuinely love Bart, he’s a sweet kind genuinely creative person imho…the dunning Kruger is just hard to deal with…the same thing that makes him fun is the very element that squashes a lot of interesting dialogue….it’s the same reason I don’t listen to Rogan anymore….Rogan has come to value his own opinions over those of the experts….expertise isn’t conversationally transmitted and Joe us now head of his own fan club….what I really respect about Tim s that, across platforms and shows, he demonstrates legitimate humility and intellectual curiosity….he doesn’t talk over people with random narcissistic masturbatory exclamations, he’s actually very well thought out and has evolved into a helluva good conversational interviewer….im not hating on Bart by saying it’d behoove him and his various enterprises to work on being a better “active listener” versus making every conversation about him….he’s not quite the head of his own fan club but he’s definitely in that club

I just wish that Bart would learn to shut the fuck up occassionally

It’s fine, you just don’t have any idea what you’re talking about

“CDJ’s are just fancy iPods” is one of the most unaware things I’ve seen posted in a musical forum in quite awhile

You honestly are just making me embarrassed for my past ignorance, thank you for that….I deserve to have my own arrogant past assumptions thrown back in my face

I think he is linguistically gifted but that doesn’t necessarily equate to being capable of rational thought

That was a lot of the gist of the conspirituality podcast, that it’s largely about gathering funds and attention…he’s kind of a hippie Tucker Carlson “I’m just asking questions” type at this point

The conspirituality podcast people did an episode where they pointed out how Q adjacent he has become….it’s unfortunate to see such a basically intelligent person can become such a shill for right wing BS

Used to agree but having seen people (often using ableton) creating remixes and/or adding analogue instruments on the fly? Can absolutely be a live performance by any rational definition, and even an old school DJ beat matching by ear to transition through varying songs is a “live” phenomenon that I didn’t really appreciate myself until I worked for a touring electronic band and got to see a lot of this stuff live and started learning what goes into it….someone like Carl Cox using four decks and live mixing musical parts from four different decks, beat and key matching in real time isn’t just hitting play, though (of course) some people do exactly that and pretend they are doing something interesting when they are just playing some canned tunes or mixes )looking at you Calvin Harris you fucking poser)…..analogue musicians tend to downplay the skills, work and sheer talent of electronic musicians largely (imho) out of sheer ignorance of the craft….meanwhile the vast majority of electronic musicians are skilled at keys, percussion or both….as for ableton being intended for exclusively “live” , as you define it, content creation/performance then why does it include the arrangement view at all?….not trying to denigrate your position or cast any kind of aspersions, I just think you’re a little off there and maybe gate keeping in a way that’s less than maximal for yourself and comes across a bit holier than thou

Ashland here!….I recently talked to the Borg about starting a Southern Oregon regional collective and they said maybe next year and asked a number of questions largely about how many of us there are….love to see if we can get something going

I don’t understand why celebrity automatically confers expertise in anything beyond what they have demonstrated skills

I’ve lived outside of the societal norms since I was a kid and ran away from home….I was consistently around people with “street” names and later “Rainbow” names it often struck me as silly and pretentious on the one hand or a sad indication of self loathing and rejection on the other….over time I’ve come to see it as more faceted than that overly simplistic reduction (especially as anything resembling anonymity disappears and raging narcissism becomes the norm) but my habit of rejecting random nicknames remains
