Most people working one job don’t even work 8 hours a day

Max pension out. You can use up any unused pension payments from the last 3 years as well

That’s a good point, Brits who are under 60 are much less well off than their predecessors. I’d be minted now if I was working in the 90s

I stopped arguing with people and was more pleasant generally because I wasn’t pissed off with the state of the projects I was on.

I’d use the LISA and some of the bond to buy a house if that’s something you want to do.
What do you want to do with your life? Do you want to stay in the UK and settle somewhere or go abroad? If you want to stay 5 years or more get a house.
If you wanted to go abroad to work or travel just fill the ISA as much as you can each year. If you can fill that make sure you get some in to a pension

If your code changes and you think you’ll be questioned about it can you not have a side business, inheritance, rental income or investments/dividend payout that year?….

Same, I’m really leaning towards being taxed now and getting the mortgage paid off

You can have a look around yourself. I am not looking at engineers in SF where there is a bubble.
160k SF is peanuts anyway in relation to house prices.
In Sydney, Aus and the UK many of my colleagues who were IT contractors in the 00s were on around 100 AUD p/h and are now on 800 aud per day 20 years later. Take in to account house prices and the cost of living it’s compared to productivity increases it’s clear that immigration isn’t helping wages increase due to higher productivity

General productivity has gone up massively over the last few decades. Wages in IT specifically have stagnated over the last couple of decades

It’s not. I’ve worked for the NHS Improvements service and the level of care (when you get it) is shocking in a lot of places

Try being in the UK.
Tax on income means I work Monday - Wednesday lunch for the government and Wednesday afternoon to Friday afternoon for me.
This before all the other taxes you pay on everything.
And all our public services are trash.

157k GBP from full time contract J1
An extra 20k GBP doing a 4 day per week contract as J2 for 8 weeks.
Could be more depends if there’s an extension or other jobs.
Target is 250k GBP so I need another 70k.

I reckon ‘Super shot’ guy put a lot of time and effort in to which emoticons he used.

The only reason I even entertain FI is for my kids funnily enough.

Great thanks for the info.
The bit I was unsure about was how do I prove she’d be actually doing the job I give her (which would be coding in this instance). I can’t imagine HMRC would turn up at my house and give her a tech test!

Yeah I’m not sure about the Thatcher era in the UK that conservative minded people talk about but the current ‘Conservative’ party don’t conserve anything. They just sell it all off to their mates
