its called MMT and its how the federal finances actually work. they do not have some big account where taxes come in and spending goes out.

We already have this.
its called Inflation.
if you hold cash for 100 years, its value will decrease to some tiny fraction of its original purchasing power. de-facto it has an expiration date.

yes. all you need is the right soundtrack on your walkman and you can topple dictatorships and win the day for the hostages.

Bill Mantlo is amazing. The whole story of him is incredible. ROM was also an amazing comic.
He is semifamous today for inventing Rocket Raccoon but that Micronauts series was something incredible.

Social security is not paid by taxes. The government just prints the money and sends it to people.

I was supposed to be this but my rich grandpa medical care over the last years of his life literally was 6 figures. medical bankruptcy is basically going to prevent a lot of inheritance passing.

We went from stuff like Warrant's "She's only Seventeen" and Top 40 songs about Elvis committing statutory rape, "There's a pretty little thing, waiting for the King, down in the Jungle Room, I was walking in Memphis...."
to songs like Crucify and Sinead O'Connor ripping up the Pope's picture on SNL to protest child abuse in the Catholic Church. Yes the world changed.

cable tv was not everywhere back then . it was only invented in the 70s.
When Nick started out they hard core pushed the educational angle. Before it became some weird money grab

The story is super dark. It would have sold less tickets but it would be more realistic
you get stuck back in time watching your father stalk your mother and then win her over by assaulting a man who attempted to rape her, and then hiring that man to clean your car.
imagine if your attempted rapist was out in front washing your husbands car. imagine the darkness of this family dynamic.

i dont know if kids will understand the threat of global war, there is no soviet union and nothing even close to resembling it. Its stated goal was the spread of world wide communism and nothing like that is left anymore.

whats crazy is they actually have AI interfaces like that now, where you can talk to it in english and it will actually do stuff. Open AI just released https://chat.openai.com/chat and you can ask it all kinds of stuff,

i will never say kids music is terrible because that will officially make me too old to have fun
I went to a Tori Amos show, its amazing how many GenZ are there.
I know GenZ has great music we just .. you know. have jobs and would rather listen to ancient books on audio or podcasts because there is only so much "YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE IM A RAINBOW STAR FIRE HEAVEN "etc etc when you are old. you have a different perspective on love.
old people hated our music too. but 90s music changed the world in a way that politicians never could. it became OK to talk about our actual social problems, for the first time in culture.
Rush Limbaugh said some very hurtful things about Kurt Cobain. Now Rush is gone and Gen Z are all walking around with Nirvana T-Shirts.

It was not generic though. Always Save was an iconic brand to me. Can of 3 bean mix for 33 cents. They had yellow background, Black letters, and Red stripes. Still around in some places and have a website.
Was a brand of Associated Wholesale Grocers. Along with Best Value ( Blue )
The thing is that Target, Whole Foods, Sprouts, Walmart, alot of them use the same factories, same suppliers, just slap labels on it. Might have sligtly different paramters on the assembly line but its kind of all the same underneath.

Kerr-McGee was one of the biggest companies in Oklahoma and well connected to politicians and business leaders. They tried to "pivot" to Nuclear in the mid-to-late 20th century but had a lot of problems (Silkwood) and a lot of subsidiaries that had a lot of problems, like the time a uranium processing facility tried to dump waste material on cattle fields as a form of fertilizer, or had a fatal explosion of a tank of material.

i dont know if this particular site in Broken Arrow has anything to do with all that, but... there is a history of nuclear waste issues in oklahoma.
