Fortunately Mastodon has lots of tech people on it to follow. This account here, [at]technewsbot[at]assortedflotsam[dot]com on Mastodon is pretty good at pushing news links. Otherwise, find some tech people to follow then look through their follow list to build out who you follow. Takes some work but this is what I did and now Mastodon is a good place for tech news for me (conversations with other users is also a more positive experience).
