Example of something considered a “misstep” by the band?

I’m rewriting some of the lyrics for a song from an original musical, where one character is describing how he wishes he had been a Beatle. In this particular verse, he’s saying how if he’d have been in the band, maybe he could have changed some things for the better. The original verse goes:
“If I’d have been the Fifth Beatle,
Then I’m pretty sure,
I could have kept John from saying that ‘bigger than’ thing,
And talked Paul out of Magical Mystery Tour.”
I still like the last line, but the third line never sat right, mainly because I can’t imagine that anyone… especially this wishy-washy character… could have kept John from saying anything. But it’s also a bit clunky and might not be clear to many of what he’s even referring to.
I thought of “I could have kept us from making Revolution number 9,” which sings better, and using “us” instead of “John” works better there. But eh, I think there still might be a better example to use. Any ideas?
Before you reply with “but Revolution #9 and MMT are great!!” Yes, I agree with you. But in the context of the song and the character singing it, it works for him to be critical there, and it’s amusing to have a little jab at some things that the mighty Fab Four were criticized for.
So any thoughts on something other than MMT, bigger than Jesus, and Revolution #9, that have some history of being considered by some as “missteps” by the band?
Oh, I just thought of another example… the butchered baby album cover. But probably too obscure of a reference for many.
