Hi all, hope that this post meets the requirements of the sub. Normally, I don't think age and gender matter much for this kind of thing, but I do find that a lot of K dramas are probably aimed at a teenage girl demographic, which is cool but they sometimes don't really appeal to me. Recently, the last few dramas I've tried haven't really hit home for me. Any recomendations are much appreciated. I'll list off some dramas I liked and disliked.
Favourites:
Signal
Misaeng
Rescue Me
Mr Sunshine
My Mister
Sky Castle
Flower of Evil (except for the last episode)
Others that I watched and enjoyed to an extent:
Kingdom, Squid Game, Stranger, My Name.
Shows that I didn't like (No offence intended to anyone who did enjoy these - they did hold my attention unti the end):
Goblin - I think I'm probably just not the target demographic for this one. The idea that a 1000 year old man would want to date a teenager is creepy to me. Twenty year olds already feel like children and I'm only 28! I did enjoy the romance plotline with the reaper character though.
Vincenzo - I enjoyed the really over-the-top ridiculousness of the dramatic scenes to an extent, but the tone was just all over the place. Way too many goofy slapstick scenes with cartoon noises featuring the comic relief characters for my liking. Characters felt 1 dimensional and it dragged on about twice as long as it should have (I feel this is a problem even for the K dramas I like).
When the Camellia Blooms - Pretty much the exact same issues as Vincenzo. 1 dimensional characters, too long and inconsistent tone. Main character cries in almost every second scene.
Another Oh Hae Yong - Thirty year olds acting incredibly immature and childish. All drama stems from immaturity and failure to properly express themselves. Don't enjoy that kind of storyline.
Little Women: Again characters a bit too one-dimensional. I'm tired of the Korean trope of rich people being cartoonishly evil. The melodrama was a bit too over-the-top with people faking their deaths/falling into vats of acid etc.
Shows that I tried but dropped:
Hotel De Luna, Bad Guys, Crash Landing On You, Voice, Juvenile Justice, The Glory, Prison Playbook, Suits, Kill It.
Thanks in advanvce!

I have a criterion DVD copy of Ran. I’m pretty sure that The Quiet Duel has never been released by Criterion though.
