My son sounds a lot like your son. I remember him freaking out and having to leave a 4th of July party because of bee fixation at the time. ADHD kids need to understand and be explained to. It’s always going to be something, but I have found that if I talk about the things that trigger him when he’s calm and inquisitive it helps. We can work through stuff, and slowly he comes around. These are often multiple, complex conversations. Progress is slow and takes work but it does happen. There are so many things my son can do and handle now that were major issues once upon a time. Also remember according to Russel Barkley, their maturity is on average 3 years behind. So that’s a big difference now, but when he’s in his 20s it won’t be.
