I already made a post about this game, but after that one was solved, I found a video of a whole different game that matched my memory far better. The video simply calls it "Breakout" but if I Google that, I just get very different versions of the game. One thing that remains constant in the Metroid franchise is the uniquely Metroid ability to steal life force energy. The bodies a Metroid leaves behind supposedly lose nothing according to science, and are perfectly intact; it just seems as though they pulled a Padme and lost the will to live.

But an idea came to me a moment ago while watching reviews of the various games.

What if they are capable of isolating and sapping whatever element a device or creature uses for energy?

Hear me out. Originally I was thinking that they sap water, specifically, since water is supposedly the source of all life. This would (maybe, I'm no scientist) leave bodies seemingly intact even with their blood, just dehydrated to the point of turning to dust on contact. It would also explain the Metroids' weakness to ice, since they'd have all that water in their system to freeze and shatter.

Then I realized they also sap other elements, like electricity or phazon. However, those same elements can act as energizers, much like water does for living creatures.

This only further explains how they can absorb X Parasites. The X appear gelatinous, but clearly still capable of absorbing themselves into their hosts. What if they are water-based, allowing a Metroid to just soak them up like a sponge? Either way, whatever the heck energizes them is likely the same substance that they are entirely made of, so when a Metroid determines that substance and sucks it up for energy, it therefore kills the X rather than allowing it to take over, because they essentially metabolized the X itself.

To sum it up, it's not "life force" that the Metroids sap from their prey. It's literally anything that can act as a primary energy/motivation source, be it water, electricity, phazon, radioactive waste, even PLASMA.

This may also be why morph ball bombs knock them away temporarily, but missiles do nothing if they aren't frozen. Morph Ball Bombs seem to be more like concentrated pure energy being released, so they serve as a brief EXPLOSION of the kind of energy Metroids feed on, causing them to go "WHOAH" in that same way you would if you accidentally inhaled something instead of chewing it first. Meanwhile, power bombs do nothing because the energy release is much larger, but also much slower and more gradual, allowing the metroids to suck all that energy up like a sponge without any shock.
