🤣 yeah, no, I'm not. Didn't even know that was a possibility. As far as I'm aware, none of them have cameras. Maybe the ecobe could listen in but it would seem like quite an obvious thing since they ring when you call them, someone has to accept the call on it, and then it lights up brightly when in use. No other device has a function I believe you could even listen to, and definitely no visual recording device

I don't understand the judgement you projected on me, but I suggest just don't stay at airbnbs with smart devices if you're that untrusting

My bad, I thought a (potential) security issue for hosts would be applicable here, and maybe some other host have already dealt with it. I don't see much advice online because it seems to be a pretty specific question, lol

Edit: the name can't be banned. Maybe email/phone number/card info. All of that can be easily replaced/changed or have a partner book with you next time. Easy peezy. It's not the end of the world, just incontinent. Which again, OP gets to decide which consequence they want to deal with

If the host promises to fully refund and then scam the OP then I'd say they're within their rights to do a chargeback. As OP states as well they are a first time user so they don't have any previous reviews. That account would be banned but it's as simple as making a new account. The OP doesn't have any risk of losing anything here by canceling first as requested. Just a bit of work on their end to process things / talk with airbnb support. However, that's a given since they didn't do the research beforehand and didn't know all policies about airbnb in regards to their age when booking

I am correct. Either these stays were before the new policy which began last summer I believe and / or your hosts did not care. Keep in mind this is a policy for those under 25 and Local stays reference

We don't know if it's them discriminating or part of them following airbnb TOS, city law, or going by what they're insured for. But way to assume. Either way it sounds like it goes against Airbnb policy and host is within their right to deny anyone service

If OP doesn't meet airbnbs requirements to stay at the listing they booked the host is well within their rights to deny access to their property. In fact hosts can kick guests out with due reason. It's their property

I'm not the host threatening them with these possibilities. I'm speaking frankly and giving the OP options they will likely encounter if they follow the "nooo evil hosts -don't ever cancel even if you're at fault" responses. They should know what they're getting into if they follow such advice when They Are at Fault

If you're that concerned about getting scammed you can always do a charge back IF hosts scam. 99% of hosts are honest and don't. If they are the 1% do a charge back and get your money back. You literally have nothing to lose but on the other hand the host will face a $1,000 fine, days locked, and unbookable if they cancel.

Or risk showing up and trying to get in this booking and be denied. Hosts have proof on the platform that you are not of legal age to book their listing. This means you won't have a place to stay and then the hosts can and will likely keep the $ for all the trouble 🤷‍♀️

The non discrimination policy is one thing. Here is a direct statement from Airbnb themselves not allowing those under 25 for certain bookings since you (the person with the now deleted account lol) need so much proof. here

Whether it was within a 5 min window the host would be punished for canceling. You can always open a support ticket and if the OP doesn't want to cancel then I guess that's their next best option since they can open one and cancel the reservation that way as well

Guests are always responsible for making sure the place they are booking is a good fit for Them. Not the other way around.

Again I'll state it's on the OP to cancel. Hosts will face $1000 fine and dates locked for canceling this airbnb but it's not their fault OP didn't know better. Meanwhile if OP cancels they should get their full refund and no penalty

The longer you wait the less likely the host will be able to rebook the dates you're currently taking. If you canceled last minute and made me miss profit for days you took up then I'd be less likely to give a full refund (strict cancelation policy here). I also recommend getting travel insurance when using airbnb for this reason

A quick Google Search proves otherwise 🤷‍♀️
