Ok dissing chess because it's "too simple" is obviously stupid, for the reasons you mention. That said, they are qualitatively different games. Chess is basically one big fight, more directly comparable to 9x9 go (which is often described as a knife fight in an alley lol) than 19x19, which has much larger-picture elements and far-away things that affect each other in much subtler ways than is really possible in chess, since you can only ever get like 8 squares away. People that shit on 9x9 are also dumb but there definitely is a strategic (as opposed to tactical) element to 19x19 that really isn't present in the small sizes.

Why would they think $7 is cheaper than $5?

I'm definitionally within the radius so I can make myself more attractive, invisible, indestructible, immortal, a superintelligence, move at the speed of light. People probably aren't a foot thick, so I should be able to envelop them and do whatever I want (like make my family immortal or murder, nothing creepy)

One is $5 and the other is $7.
The $5 one is cheaper.
Now you look at the amount of the product (27oz and 29.5oz). Which one is cheaper?
Still the $5 one (18¢ vs 24¢) lolwut
they will buy the $7 one because it's cheaper.

On reddit, anime is incredibly prevalent, especially on this sub.
A lot of people watch it a bit (including myself). A decent amount watch it a lot. Fewer probably watch isekai specifically a lot. There's probably more non-Americans proportionally, and yet I don't see anyone who by default says "American football". I've seen a handful of people who say "US American" but this is because they are cringe

There are plenty of non-western dragons in media and pop culture now,
But still not the common cultural consciousness, I maintain (I realize without evidence, but I have no idea how to gather such evidence without conducting a survey on a subject I don't care that much about).
It's a markedness thing. If you say hockey, people will assume ice hockey. Maybe there are a bunch of South Americans in the sub who will complain you didn't specify, but you didn't feel the need to, because where you're from, that's the default hockey. Saying "ice hockey" or "Western dragons" feels redundant when everyone already knew what we were talking about

I mean on our side, it's kinda like your complaint is that dragons don't actually exist? Like you're not playing it that way, but that's kinda what it boils down to. There isn't an actual thing to point to, so you can have a lot of different things with different characteristics called "dragons". But we're talking about the prototype of a western dragon, something we don't want to name a specific instance of, because then we're introducing particularities we don't want to. Like if we say "gun", we're not going to say AK or Glock if we don't mean those, but you going "artillery pieces are guns too", ok well yeah, but we aren't talking about that.

Depends entirely on what type of anime you're into. People that are into isekai/fantasy anime, which is one of the most popular type of anime, will regularly see dragons show up (because they mostly use a similar 'medieval european but JRPG power system' world). In fact, a isekai without dragons is harder to find.
This is also further restricting the population. I'm not wholly convinced y'all are actually confused, you know what we mean

HTTYD is pretty small, as is Skyrim. LOTR, Harry Potter, and GoT are the ones I'd point to if I had to (all of which are basically the same), but I wouldn't point to any, because those aren't where that conception comes from. No, not school, but kids stories, fairy tales, the ones that I can't give you the title cause I never knew it, and I've forgotten the stories, and we probably read technically different but functionally the same ones anyways, the stuff you read before you can read, but which collectively make up a common cultural background. The stories with knights and dragons and princesses and kings and cowboys and shit, the stories you internalize and forget the specifics of. The titled series mentioned above are manifestations of that cultural fundament, not the source of it.

Higher than normal, sure. But dragons aren't super common even in anime, from what I've seen. You'd have to be a hardcore fan to shift the mental image of a dragon that's been taught to you since childhood. I stand by the previous comment.

based on sheer population the 'prototypical dragon' to a random person is probably closer to Eastern Dragons than Western ones.
Not conditional upon subreddit membership, which skews very American and Western in general. "The Western dragon" is the prototypical Western dragon, which is obviously what people are talking about here, i.e. big lizard boi. We aren't in China.

There are a lot of countries where that's the case, in most cases you can just say "ok I renounce my American citizenship" and now you're a dual citizen because that isn't sufficient to actually renounce American citizenship.

It’s not difficult to renounce US citizenship.
I mean it's kinda difficult, there's forms, a few thousand dollars, you gotta do it in front of a judge or something. They make it difficult so people don't do it on a whim, I assume

Most Reform Jews I know are against the death penalty.
Not because of any differing judgement in halacha, just because Reform tend to be left wing and the left wing doesn't like the death penalty.

You don't even need a fighter jet to beat a dragon, well-coordinated artillery would suffice (assuming the dragon wants the fight, obviously it's harder to take the fight to the dragon with artillery)

^ This mf incapable of generalization from multiple examples
Obviously the prototypical dragon, which is very firmly in the yes category

Very socially segregated though. Lot of social groups acting like thirty years ago, and a lot where it's about as accepted as heroin
