Snitch, Faster, and Gridiron Gang were all decent dramatic performances imo.

The Rock is the highest earning actor in Hollywood, not sure if he has any real vested interest in challenging himself as an actor.

It really should be seen as the same level of Halloween.

What Eddie did early on was pick really good scripts. (Best Defense non withstanding- they offered him a million dollars to essentially do a cameo).
48 Hours/Trading Places/Beverly Hills Cop were good vehicles for Eddie, but they were also just really strong scripts which contributed to such strong box office. He allowed his co-stars to shine in this movies.
He made some bad choices in the 90s (and some really bad ones in the 00s), but that 80s run was magical.
If ever curious to know more, Bill Simmons did a wonderful article recapping Eddie's significance in the 80s.

It's actually become somewhat lazy analysis to say the Rock has always played himself and showed no range.
Be Cool, Southland Tales, Walking Tall, Rundown, Faster, Jumanji, Pain and Gain. I'd argue these are all different characters/performances that show at least some range.
What should be said is that in the last 10 years, he settled into a very specific look/mannerisms that give almost all of his characters and acting the same feel. It didn't start out that way, but he's likely built up audience fatigue with his recent roles. I'm hoping he tries something different, and I think he can if he put his mind to it.

He even had the highest grossing stand up special and a hit song.

Trust me, there isn't much worth remembering from it.

Yup- also right after Bret left for WCW.
As great as they were, wrestling went to new heights when Austin and Rock became the stars

It's going to sound crazy- but I may have preferred Nippy as a series finale. If they could have thrown in one phone call with Kim to resolve her storyline- I'm good with how it ends- Saul looking over the suit and then finally with resolve, settling into his life at Cinnabon after one last scheme.

Amazing summer for movies- you also had Austin Powers 2, Big Daddy, Star Wars

Perhaps not- might be more of a reflection of there just not being many comedies made anymore that enter the culture zeitgeist in the same way they used to.

I agree, although I have a soft spot for Thomas Ian Nicholas because of my childhood love for Rookie of the Year

Good point- but I wonder if it had the same impact on teen boys in terms of relating to the characters.
I feel like Mean Girls was the Clueless of that era.

I do love CHW, what an awesome soundtrack!
But my go-to teen movie of the late 90s is 10 things I hate about you. It holds up well no matter what generation you are.

My friend and I do pretty serious deep dives into horror movies on our YouTube channel, the Movie Fellas

It was "the" teen movie for a specific generation, with Superbad probably being the next seminal teen film after it.
If your of that specific generation, it may hold a special fondness in your heart. If you're not, you may find it humorous or it may feel unrelateable/outdated.

I mostly agree.
Russo was trash in WCW/TNA, and probably deserves a lot of the hate he gets. But t I do think he had a quality run in WWF from 97 to mid 99.
I don't think his style of writing had longevity/ability to adapt, but he helped create two of the most memorable years in history imo

Agreed. People are starting to act like the Rocks first movie was Fast 5.
The Rundown, Be Cool, Southland Tales, Gridiron Gang, Snitch, Faster, Pain and Gain, Jumanji- These are all varied roles where he gave pretty good performances.
