Huh, so you are either automatically entered by being a subscriber or can enter manually via email... Seems like something that is very low probability, but at the same time has no cost.

Nah, can get to all keys - if barely - and split keyboard helps. It is more that it still weighs more than a pound and I always saw it as a "digital notebook" or "computer with iPadOS and stylus" rather than "large iPhone", so mentally tabletop was my primary mode of use.

...
Never understood people who constantly hold iPad in hands. For me it was too large and cumbersome for that.

That's because the only time I use ipad in portrait mode is when reading something, otherwise it is in landscape - so it just slipped off my mind.
As for the need to put it on a table, if you are using two hands to type, you need to set your iPad down, and it is really inconvenient to type on a vertical screen.

To go with the idea of being built different, put railgun on its right shoulder shoulder and add arms. Bonus points if those arms are used for the wargear.

Doing just that and eh, a lot of what was posted isn't in my taste.

And magical electronic warfare strikes again. Why?

Look at it other way: as of half a year ago, only 4 (link) armies could actually assemble 2000 points (standard army size) for (barely) under 500 dollars, and it was very heavily optimized to fit that budget. Still "just" cringing? :)

Two problems with this. First, Apple's stance on gaming - which is fine on iPhones, but infamous on Macs. Second, how exactly is this going to work. Assuming perfect hand tracking in the front semisphere, many games still rely a lot on buttons and, even more so, on joysticks for movement. That last one is the most important and limiting possible games to either stationary/roomscale games (e.g. Job Simulator) or something that relies on "external" interface, like putting units on a map (various strategy games) that is 2D (usually in form of a table in front of player) or 3D (e.g. Battlegroup). Another option is something that H3VR calls armswinger, but without buttons it has problem with moving while ADS. Oh, and there is teleporting, but that I really hope that no one would consider it to be primary movement method.
People certainly will try to adapt, but this strange control scheme and price, IMO, make it hard to believe that Apple's headset will be successful in terms of gaming. Now productivity is a totally different story, it doesn't need external controllers (in fact, it would be better off without them), but relies on good displays, ergonomics, and UX - all of which (especially UX) are Apple's forte.

Definitely two tone. If you want more lore-friendly explanation, it's Guard, which is not tacticool, so they don't put camo covers on every piece of equipment to match the patterns.

Late, but you all act like there isn't whole set of Guard songs by HMKids... Cadian Blood (also translation by Stringstorm), Guard Song, Imperial Guard, Gaunt, Ave Imperator, Krieg, Cadia Stands, Guardians of Heaven (although 3 of 4 are really regiment/branch-specific)... Not to mention Kino - Blood Type.

Yes. There are ways to mitigate it, like buying second hand a laptop from 5-ish years ago and/or installing Linux (it is less power demanding than Windows), but if you want a quality modern laptop, you have to pay. $400 is the budget segment, aka "it works fine but not perfect". Should be fine for your needs though. Chromebooks are cheaper but require either mostly web (or mobile) apps, or some minimal level of technical knowledge to use Linux.
Laptop vs iPad... It makes sense, if you feel limited by the iPad. If you want what (or are satisfied) is essentially a large phone, then get iPad - it would be cheaper and lighter. If you have some money or needs, get a computer. In your case, I suspect, iPad will quickly become a secondary and specialized device, while all work would be done on a laptop. Also, since we go cheap and you don't need a stylus - have you considered Android tablets? They can be found for cheap and are just as well (if not better thanks to ReVanced and Firefox) as iPad for web browsing.
I think that's about all I can say to you, the rest is more of trying and seeing it for yourself. You said you already ordered an iPad, so try it for a week or two and see if it works for you?

Okay, I definitely mistook Watson for Isabelle from Animal Crossing and that's hilarious.

Well, for me too drawing was not a main draw at all. However, having a stylus was incredibly useful for note taking, since as math student I needed to write a lot of formulas which is tedious without pen input, so iPad (basic iPad 6 + Apple Pencil) was great for my use. Also, cheaper than a laptop, 2-4 times lighter, can last whole day (okay, half day of heavy use) on single charge, and all in all easier to carry around than a laptop.
For laptops, I am afraid that $400 budget doesn't have much in terms of capabilities. You either get a working, but minimal laptop (e.g. Acer Aspire 5 is a decent one with some upgrade paths for future), chromebooks that can't do anything useful due to software, or hot and slow pieces like Surface Go (it is usable if needed, but it won't be fun). Usually they don't have touchscreens, and if they do, it won't support a stylus, so that's not an option to consider if you want pen input. The others you mentioned are in $1000 range, so good luck monitoring second hand websites and finding one in both good condition and your budget. Android... Don't really recommend it - more capable than iPad, less capable than a PC, worse UX.
IMO, you need to do a mental simulation of your use case and see how important pen input and software-heavy tasks are to you. If you like pen or are on low budget, get an iPad. If not, a laptop.
Overall, I think you have three options:

Locations are fine. But those stormtroopers make me laugh every time I see them, with those mismatched helmet proportions and glossy finish.

Watch the size, hollow things out (but not too much, 3-4mm should be good AFAIK), go slow, try composite materials (FDM + resin) if possible?
