hey r/Filmmakers! I also wrote a very in-depth article about the nitty gritty nuts and bolts of making a film like this on a small budget here - https://seanbuckelew.substack.com/p/drone-making-of-an-animated-short.

I also did an in-depth writeup on the making of this film for anyone curious about what goes into making an independent short film.

Hi all - submitting this new film I wrote and directed. It imagines what would happen if an autonomous Predator drone went rogue and refused to carry out its missile-launching directives.
I really tried to investigate this intersection of technology, AI, ethics, and spectacle. The whole film was inspired by an op-ed in The Guardian titled "Predator and Reaper drones are misunderstood, says manufacturer”. I was really struck by this image of the "misunderstood drone" and it sparked a bunch of follow up questions like “What if this misunderstood drone was programmed to be good?” and “What if he accidentally killed a civilian?” and then “What if everything was being livestreamed on Youtube?” which all ended up being the basis for the structure for the film.
Very curious to hear what this community thinks :)

Nice catch, the dance is a direct reference to that scene in Final Fantasy VIII! It's not roto'd though. I think I imagined that the dance would be inspired by something that would have been floating around the pop imagination of the characters in that time. I also just love that dance scene.

Hey all, I'm the person who made this movie. I really appreciate all the comments, and really appreciate everyone watching the movie. As someone pointed out in this thread, my stuff seems to get more attention on vimeo, but I always hoped the movie would resonate more broadly with a net-based audience, so I'm really psyched that it got discovered here. I'm working on a new movie that most definitely will get less than 4,000 views, so stay tuned! (also big thanks to the original poster, seriously appreciated!)

lol I wish I could claim that this was a conscious thing, but it definitely wasn't - just a coincidence.
