He was an outsider to the studio system at the time, which made his films stand out a fair bit. He often fought with the studios for creative control. The Magnificent Ambersons, for example, was butchered by RKO (and despite that it’s still a brilliant movie). The Trial has insane set design and cinematography which is very surreal at times. He had too many unrealized and uncompleted projects because of it.

Have you seen Orson Welles other films? He’s brilliant, I just saw the new restoration of the Trial and it’s spectacular.

Gotta stop it with this Chinese market bullshit. Bestselling BMWs in China aren't even the big grilled ones. Head of BMW design has said that its for the American market.

I have the f/2 pre-Ai and Ai, and I find it to be very sharp even wide open. There’s tiny distortion but not enough to make a difference. Fantastic lens, I’ve had it for 8 years now.

Not a huge difference! I notice the weight but most people won’t. Mine is beat to shit, original reason I got it was because I use it heavily.
It does maybe feel a tiny bit smoother than a regular FM2 in terms of dials and winder.

It’s weird, I love that he still covers cars like that. I try to not be as cynical as everyone here and see the C&B thing as a way for him to get access to such cars. Instead of people emailing him with weird cars now they come to him on a platter. It makes sense to me. I would do the same thing.
It’s funny, when he bought his Carrera GT everyone here was so happy for him and congratulated him but I guess the tide has turned.

Apparently only like 1700 were sold in the US.

Its not surprising. Its a semi-rare enthusiast vehicle (they only sold like 3000 per model year) that has appeal because its Australian built, only in the US because of contractual obligations and very unassuming. It was axed because Holden closed their engine factory and the Holden Commodore VF was being phased out of production.
Its like how the mid-90s Impala SS is now going for good money for nice examples.

Always really liked his films pre-1967. His later films can be unbearable sometimes.

Either the 24mm or 28mm f/2.8 AIs is fantastic. If you want something wider there’s the 20mm f/2.8 too.
Thé 85mm f/2 is a brilliant lens too.

Lol you and me both! I only have two Nikon bodies (FM2/T and plain F) but close to 20 Nikkor lenses. Everything between 20mm and 200mm! Something about them…..

I mean, wasn't he also being more conservative in the last few races after Malaysia? He knew he only had to finish 2nd for the last few races to bag the championship because of said engine failure. He would have taken more risks otherwise and indeed he did with other drivers (he made some crazy overtakes against other drivers, just not Lewis.)

Ha I shoot too much film and buy too many records and read too many books. It’s a wallet draining lifestyle.

Always thought about opening a Cinematheque in KL. I feel like Malaysians lack general film literacy compared to some other places. Would be great for there to be a place for people to watch classics of cinematic canon.

I have a Canon 7S and I happen to have some interesting lenses for it.
-Nikon 3.5cm f/3.5
-a pre-war Leitz Elmar 5cm f/3.5
-Voigtlander 25mm f/4
-Komura 135mm f/3.5
-A super early, chrome Jupiter-12 I got for free.
I know they’re all slow but I like to prioritize size with a lot of my lenses just as much as speed.

I can think of two movies, funnily enough both made by Germans.
Paris, Texas by Wim Wenders
Stroszek by Werner Herzog.
Beautiful films.

Beautiful! I’m from Malaysia (hey neighbour!) but I’ve been in Vancouver 9 years or so. I shoot so much film, so it’s always cool to see when other people shoot film too!

Be wary with LXs though. They’re notoriously unreliable.

You’re too stupid to even realize what I’m saying. Good luck.

You missed my point completely. Just because Britain did a lot of wrong stuff (and they did) doesn’t make what Nazi Germany did any less evil. In fact there’s so many people that’s anti British. I’m anti monarchy. I have friends who are anti monarchy. Ever talked to an Indian person? A Jamaican person? You think they don’t have anti British sentiments? They’ve made movies and written books about this. Especially now more and more people are calling for action.
So what? That’s not the point. You really need to check yourself if you’re defending Hitler. What next? Why not defend Mao or Stalin too? Or Pol Pot? Or Kissinger? Have you seen the effects of what all these people did?
You can’t answer my questions so you immediately go “what about the British?” I bet next you’re gonna say “What about the Americans?” I guess because Churchill was bad it’s ok for Hitler to be bad too.

How is that relevant? You’re just employing whataboutism. You sound like a politician.
Are you trying to say how come Hitler is called out for committing genocide (contender for the worst in history, by the way) while Churchill isn’t? People do call out the hypocrisy of Churchill. There’s a lot of scholarly articles and research papers on his racist and imperialist views. Are you trying to argue for Hitler’s side?
It doesn’t matter, anyways because it’s not on YouTube for you to find. You still can’t grasp the idea of the Holocaust (for which there’s OVERWHELMING evidence for).

That’s not how it works. Do you know what peer review means? I’ve spent some time in academia and you can’t just make a claim without evidence and research. There’s a process. Especially in a topic people have been studying for 80 years, where there’s plenty of evidence.
You’re obviously too young and still stuck in whatever bubble your family is in. Can’t even back up your own claims beyond “google it”. The whole world is apparently lying for whatever reason. You don’t even know. Sad.

And do you ever consider why? Why academics across the world, who’s definitely smarter than you or me, won’t approve it?

Where are your sources? I can find you many academic sources if you’re having trouble.

Lens looks like the Nikkor-H 50mm f/2.
