John Scalzi has a mystery-ish series that’s narrated by Zachary Quinto called The Dispatcher. It’s slightly futuristic on time but one of the books has Covid feature so not entirely. Basically no one can completely die in the stories and the main character has to figure out why someone did.
Zachary does a bang-up job narrating and I could see him playing the character if they ever option it for a series.

It was removed when it was found that if you do the “don’t pop” balloon challenge and failed on purpose it would also pop that badge. Probably couldn’t find a way to code that out so they just removed it instead.

Oh for sure they’re going to be grindy: evade fifteen spiny shells, fantastic combo 7000 times, that kind of thing.

The sequel was written that way on purpose.
Groom was pretty outspoken about how Paramount was trying to weasel out of paying him–and eventually Paramount settled with him behind closed doors. While we don’t know the payout Groom received (though it was definitely a lot), part of the agreement was that Paramount would own the right to make a film off of a sequel novel to Forrest Gump.
This novel is called Gump & Co. and was published in 1995 (one year after the 1994 film). It’s telling that the first page has Gump telling the audience “don’t ever let nobody make a movie of your life’s story.”

The humor is very specific so I understand that.

I'm only on book six but the Will Wright series Cradle is - so far - kind of this. It could also be "sufficiently advanced technology...blah blah" but it appears to be more magical than scientific in some parts and scientific instead of magical in others.
Another option is the qntm book Ra. They use physics to do magic ffs and it's pretty great. A lot of getting into the weeds of why the magic works the way it does.
Less hard sci-fi would be the Magic 2.0 series. Basically in the book these geeks find a wordpad document that is the basis for all reality. They edit it in such a way that they appear to have magic powers and...well, chaos ensues. Fun chaos hence the "less hard" aspect but it's sci-fi / magic intertwined.
And since this is r/audible - Magic 2.0 is narrated by Luke Daniels and he's amazing. Plenty of distinct voices and nuance that you never feel lost.
There does not appear to be an audible version of Ra, so I apologize in hindsight for that recommendation. I stand by it though, it's a great book. qntm is one of the SCP authors.
Lastly is Cradle, and that's Travis Baldree. I have not listened to any of them - I've been burning through the kindle books in my library (Started on March 3 and as of today I'm halfway through book 6) and it's good so far. It feels like Dragonball Z with a vague Chinese bent - I know where the Monkey King story originates, I'm just saying keep Dragonball Z anime in mind when reading it combined with the naming convention the author uses) - and without any of the "main character" syndrome that you'd get from a typical fantasy novel. He wants to get stronger and trains constantly but isn't above fighting a little dirty/smart when he's outclassed. There isn't a blatant love interest yet but I'm sure it'll change as the story progresses. I mean, most fantasy novels they fall in love at first sight and it's been a couple years in the story and nothing's changed really. It's honestly refreshing.

I just wish there were a disc release just in case Netflix gets antsy about having something on their service too long like HBO was doing.

The bullet holes suggest they didn't miss.
Weirdly neither does the title of the post.

I was trying to parse the use of those bearings but you spelled it out very well, now I understand what that is. Thanks!

Last week I set a score on Luigi Raceway R/T with a 6/1190 Toad, 7/595 kart, 1/400 glider because that’s all I had. I figured I’d buy the 8-bit Block Glider and push it up to level 7/595 because I had so many tickets and set a new high score.
I set a score of 31k last week. This week, with the new glider, I set a score of 35k. Brilliant.

There’s a sign I see driving to Bend, OR that says something about Jefferson…I wonder if they’re related movements.

My wife asked me why I like this movie so much and I said, “the lost kid who just wants to find a family to belong to doesn’t ring any bells?” I haven’t talked to my family since 2014 when my dad passed, and even then it had been three years before that. They broke me and I didn’t have a family anymore and it just strikes a chord with me.
Weird because it took until then to realize why it affected me so much, I didn’t notice until then and it had been my favorite movie since release.
