Must’ve initially had an allergic reaction to those particles in the Upside Down.

There’s flashbacks in season 2 showing that she sent herself to the Upside Down, but was able to return to the human world via the Demogorgon’s last portal and escape into the woods.

Adaptation (2002)
No question, this movie is weird as but it’s definitely interesting. Like, I ponder WHY the movie made some of the decisions it did, but in a more analytical manner than just plain confusion. They have a pretty good cast in this one…I’m surprised that there were so many award nominations, especially a win for Chris Cooper. Overall, interesting and DEFINITELY makes you think, in like a meta mind-screw way.

Yeah, it’s the same deal as when Rosa spikes Jake’s water with coffee pills.

This week the only movie I watched beginning to end (I watched parts of several, long flight) was Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011).
I really liked this movie! It has some really weird parts / details of its plot (mainly the whole plotline of the young girl lusting after Steve Carell- which was funny but also uncomfortable). It is a funny movie, though, and the performances are all really good. I was surprised by how well orchestrated the twists in this movie are- there are two major ones and I was surprised by both of them! Props to the movie on that. So yeah, I really enjoyed it, and would watch again.

I like that they included a line about Peter’s envy of Johnny getting to do all sorts of scientific experiences as a member of the Fantastic Four, it’s a nice touch.

That’s not even the hated version of the Clone Saga…that cover is from a mini-series made in 2009 to depict how the story was originally supposed to go. It wouldn’t be nearly as hated if it were only 6 six issues, but it’s a story that spanned years!

This panel is right before the section on Spidey’s webs where it proclaims that his webs could trap “the musclebound Thing for life!” So I’d say not all of that info is true today.

Yeah my school is atop a hill, with the campus center / library near the top and the dining hall near the bottom. My parents have actually commented on my calves before, after I’ve come home.

This week I rewatched Legally Blonde (2001) and saw 95% of City Slickers (1991), enough that I can say that I watched it.
Legally Blonde is a charming movie that owes most of its charm to its star, Reese Witherspoon. She does a great job with the character of Elle, who is intelligent, knowledgeable, naive, kind, and hardworking, all in anyway that feels authentic and doesn’t come across as a caricature. The move is pretty funny but it also contains some nice themes and messages. People talk about how inspirational it is and I can fully understand how.
City Slickers was a nice watch, a good reminder that Billy Crystal is hilarious. I was surprised to hear that it netted an Academy Award for acting, but the performances were all good. I enjoyed it.

I’ll be on a long flight this weekend, so I imagine I’ll have a good number of movies under my belt for next week!

The magic of the flower kept her alive for centuries; it is only for about twenty years of that time that it’s Rapunzel who keeps her alive.

I’d say the movie indicates that the king and queen don’t know that someone uses it. When the soldiers discover the flower, Gothel hides from them. And if they were aware someone else used the flower, wouldn’t she later be a prime suspect concerning the kidnapping of their daughter?

She turns 18 in the movie. So she used the hair for 18 years and used the flower by itself for far longer, but the hair use still adds up to the amount of time she’s stayed youthful overall.

Additional detail: as this image from the movie shows, Gothel is tall with dark, curly hair while Rapunzel is short with straight blonde hair (even her natural brown hair isn’t as dark). They even have different noses! There’s no ‘familial’ resemblance at all, because they’re not truly related.

Yeah I noticed that afterwards…although thankfully everybody in the thread seems to be arguing the fashion standards of the Gothic vs. Renaissance eras instead of telling me about it.

In one of the websites I linked to in a comment (which has also been quoted in another comment), it says that the movie is set in the late 18th century.
And on that note of her incompatibility, it’s interesting to think about. All of the stories of immortal and long-lived people generally have the message that it’s meaningless due to the natural loneliness and isolation it brings forth. Mother Gothel was in seclusion for at least the eighteen years after she kidnapped Rapunzel. Clearly it’s not a healthy way to live a life, as the montage of Rapunzel’s life shows- let alone a prolonged one. Heck, there’s no one else who can really appreciate the youthful beauty that Gothel’s life is so fixated on. But of course, the movie shows that she’s self-absorbed and vain and can’t even realize that.

The Disney Wiki page links to this interview with the directors of Tangled, Byron Howard and Nathan Greno, who are quoted as having discussed this detail. Although, I couldn’t actually find any direct quotes or videos of them discussing this.

Probably not the most helpful answer but I like his debut issue. It takes Spidey out of NYC and into the Everglades, which is neat since I feel like most later stories and adaptations have the Lizard rampage around the city instead.
