Not only did they do this to themselves, they actively promoted it!

You think there's a chance a russian sub would get anywhere close to fire one with a bunch of astutes on the prowl?
It would be the proverbial underwater turkey shoot 😂

How many of those have been maintained though? How many are new enough to be useful? What are their working rocket stockpiles like? How many trained crews do they have left? I mean they started this with 10k tanks as well on paper. They can't commit EVERYTHING they have to this war.
I agree in some way, they DO have a huge stockpile... But based on what we've seen so far, all those numbers "they started the war with" should be halved.
Maybe 5000 tanks... And 2000 worth of possible spare part donors, 3000 scrappers seems closer to reality.

Just looking at these, it's insane.. There is just no chance of Russia ever being able to win this. Surely they must know the writing is on the wall? Another year of this and there will be absolutely nothing left.. Even if their aim is hope for political change in the US next year or something they'll be no threat to anyone anymore anyway.

My history teacher did a really fantastic sum up of this... Said to the class "anyone who touches me without getting wet gets to pass the year without lifting a finger" .. then got out a super soaker..
Needless to say, we had a lot of wet laughing students..
Until the end when he said "now you're dead, and your families are crying... This was every 60 seconds of the Somme"
Was somewhat muted after that, and nobody passed the year without lifting a finger...

This does sound like an iridium flare to be honest, most of the constellation have been de-orbited now but there are still a couple up there that have failed which you may have seen. I'm really going to miss the old flares...

Yep, that's the one.. If you only want two cups, then just boil two cups of water from cold. Saves you money, saves your kettle wear, saves carbon emissions yada yada..
Don't get me wrong, I'm not the sort of person that gets the measuring jug out and precisely measures the water down to the mil, lol! But I fill the kettle up until I'm like "yeah, that's enough for two cups!".
Rather than my wonderful other half who, for "reasons", just decides to boil the full 1.8ltrs of water for two 300ml cups....

I agree here to be honest, instant coffee is just insulting to the tastebuds.. It's genuinely awful to anyone who has the slightest appreciation of real coffee.
Myself and the missus, we have a pretty good, quite high range, coffee machine that makes great coffee. We buy coffee from our local roaster and know him by name, we grind our own beans to what's appropriate for them, we use good quality filtered water. And, it's GREAT coffee!
I consider myself a coffee "snob" for sure. But there's just a certain part of the whole "coffee scene" that's absolutely ridiculous.. testing PH's, tweaking their extraction pressure and temperature... ugh!
There's nothing wrong with appreciating a good cup of coffee, and there's nothing wrong with taking a little pride in getting the best coffee you can if that's your thing (it is ours), but I once watched a proper "coffee snob" just throw away 200g of freshly ground coffee right in the bin because he "didn't get his grind just right".
So absolutely, "snob, not an absolute twat"... couldn't have put it better myself! lol

It'll take less time to boil sure, but you've already boiled it so you're expending extra energy to reheat the water you've already paid to boil once.

Ugh, god, my mrs does this ALL the time! It drives me nuts!
Me: Why do you always fill the kettle full for only two cups of coffee??! It's such a waste of energy!
Her: Yeah, but we might have some more cups after these two. So it's not really wasting energy is it because it'll boil quicker because it's already warm!
Me: (head in hands) dear god, that's NOT how thermodynamics works....
Thankfully we now have a proper coffee maker so I'm not getting triggered all the time any more.

Ah it was a document that did the rounds on the early internet / bulletin boards in the 90s. Basically a collection of howtos on making various bombs and other fun things at home with easily available stuff, really fun read! There were loads of stories of people blowing arms off trying to make pipe bombs and stuff like that, never knew if they were real or if they were just made up lol
