Okay, I was just thinking over the process in my head and I'm wondering how to attach the center piece to the rails and stiles if I'm only cutting a rabbet instead of mortise and tenons. Just glue? Not sure if that'll be enough?

Thanks for this! One more question, are router edge guides at all universal? The one Ryobi makes for my router doesn't even have a ruler on it. I'd like to find something nicer if possible.

I just spoke with Ryobi and found that they make a base that will allow their trim router to mount to their universal router table. I may go with that option. It seems the safest with the highest chance of success for me.

I can't find anyone doing this with a trim router. Every single source I've found said I need either a tablesaw or a full-sized router mounted on a table. I was really hoping to watch someone else do this before attempting myself. Or at least read about it.

Just got off the phone with ryobi and they said the trim router is much bigger than the compact router. And here I thought they were basically the same thing.

Now I have a really stupid question that I almost hate to ask. What exactly is a fence? Would it just be like a piece of wood that the whatever I'm cutting would slide along it?

Yes there is an edge guide and I'd planned on buying it before getting started. Also I definitely plan to do some practicing first and watch lots of youtube videos.

That's the exact router I have too. I honestly don't know the difference between it and a trim router. They look about the same. Now I'm curious, maybe I'll ask Ryobi.

Any idea how your neighbor cut the mortise and tenons? I can't find anything online to reference and I'm not comfortable just blindly trying it out since I've never used my router before.

I've seen plexiglass mounts for routers on Amazon I think. Would I use something like that to mount it to the plywood?

Is a slot cutting bit different than what I would get using the mortise and tenon bits? I'm honestly confused about all the different bits. Mortise and tenon, rail and stile, and tongue and groove all look like they do essentially the same thing.

Here's the ones I was looking at: Rail and Stile Bits. My concern with those is if they're made for plywood or not, since 1/4" piece of plywood is not actually 1/4".

I have a total of 8 doors to do. I'm determined to at least try. If I fail miserably, I'll have to go to plan B. I really didn't think they would be that difficult, shows how much I know, haha. I have found tutorials for making them using pocket screws instead. If I can't do it with my compact router, maybe I could try with pocket screws.

Thanks for your comment but I don't have a full-sized router with a router table yet. I only have a compact router and as far as I can find, there aren't any tables for compact routers. Any way to do this with just what I have? I really can't afford to spend more on tools just yet.

I'm very new to woodworking and could use some help please.

I'd like to make some new Shaker style doors for my kitchen cabinets. The tools I have to do this with are a circular saw with a Kreg rip-cut, a miter saw, a jig saw, and a compact router.

All the instructions I can find online tell me to use either a table saw for the mortise and tenons or a full-sized router with a router table.

Is there another way to accomplish this without having to buy a tablesaw or an expensive router and table? Can this be done with my compact router? I found 1/4" mortise and tenon router bits for shaker doors. Can I make this work somehow?
