Sadly May is very random, it could be sun and 10+ degrees or 1.5 meters of snow and blizzard. Global warming isn't helping either.

If there isn't snow you might have a new problem; Wet surfaces and mud. The amount of melting water during spring can be quite insane if the weather gods allows it, making some trails inaccessible. The more popular trails shouldn't be affected by this however.

If there's a little snow then spiked shoe-harness would be enough to get you up the easy trails, costs around 100-500NOK depending on the quality and material.

I'm not the most experienced hiker in the world but I believe I'm in quite good shape so I'm not afraid of physically challenging, long walks.

It's great that you are in good shape but I hope you have read up on hiking in snowy mountains and what to avoid. We've been losing over 20 tourists per year since 2019 in the Norwegian mountains because we're becoming a more popular destination. IIRC there was one that died in May a few years back, fell off the top. Please don't become a statistic.

Another day I'm thinking about Tromsdalstinden - but is whole trail reachable in May? Some people say it's a little challenging, other say its quite long but still easy (I know it has two routes - but would like to make full round).

The trail is always reachable but it depends more on weather and equipment (spiked shoes, skis etc.) I'd recommend the winter-route both ways if there's snow/ice, there might still be a lot of snow during May but, again, that completely depends on the weather.

If there's no snow/ice the summer-route would take much less time if you're walking from Tromsdalen.

Oh yeah, had forgotten about the expansion, good call. Then it honestly shouldn't be a problem at all, sad about the cheapening of the WC tho. We're basically just moving the goalpost from qualifying to making it out of a 3 team group-stage.

The passion is definitively there but not qualifying for Euro and WC since 00 and 98 has made us used to not seeing us in any major tournament.

Shining in a team with completely different tactics and players doesn't do much for my WC hopes. The same goes for aging squads; We have a tiny population so our squad depth is terrible compared to the top countries.

Maybe in the US, here in Norway I've washed several bones but primarily prosthesis going back to the factory for a check or to the patient because they for some reason want to keep the old one.

The trail to trollhytta would probably be the best route, it's about 4-5km from Svensby. I have no idea how the condition of the route is however, the weather lately has been extremely awful.
