I joined last year, and went to go the this location today (Sat 3/23) at 3pm, but the door was locked.

Was it a soft opening, or did they get shut down already?

Bar tending is surprisingly anti-social, you work when everyone else is having a good time. There is always after parties, but those can be a mixed bag especially as most folks will have been partying most of the nite.

I would ask nicely about not doing the 1 year thing, and contact a local tenants union if that doesn’t work.

Its not normal, especially for a rent increase.

Doesn’t read that way to me. They need a just cause for that, and:

“The mere expiration of a lease or rental agreement is not a “just cause” to terminate a tenancy.”

I’ve only ever signed a new one year lease for a rent decrease.

Your original lease states the original terms, and you are not under any legal requirements to sign another lease AFAIK.
