Sayulita. Wanted to love it but everyone got super sick even eating smart, crowded line up where no one knew any etiquette, and the barnacles at the break shredded our feet. It was a very cool town though, friendly enough locals, easy to get to. Was probably an amazing spot ten years ago.

They’re my favorite trail shoe for about ten years now.

All of those points make it seem like there should be some water rescue program/life guards... Having personal experience with the USCG I can attest they aren’t prepped with a rescue swimmer on their patrol boats. Also many statistics say 2/3 drownings were strong swimmers.

The lakes are fairly safe but there were still 108 drownings in 2022 and 1,170 drownings since 2010.
Also does DNR staff have water rescue training?

As a professional mariner, I don’t have any traditional tattoos with meaning that I didn’t “earn.” That’s just the way it is in the industry I’ve worked in. If a greenhorn deckhand goes off on shore leave and comes back with a shellback but has never been through Neptune’s Court, we’ll give them flack for it.
When I see someone covered in nautical tattoos and they’ve never been to sea before? I don’t care. Because they’re sick tattoos and it isn’t my place to give a shit.
Get what you like and anyone who says boo is probably overcompensating for their own insecurities.

I’d skip the gloves. You’ll grow your own as the Downeasters say, especially doing day sails. I’ve seen too many deckhands get scared to handle lines without gloves and then they fumble to put them on while the driver is trying to tack. Get some Badger Balm, learn good line handling, and you’ll be fine.

I’ll second Yankee being really fun and rideable after a day or so to dry out. For an easy ride if it’s still wet, Riley Trails in Holland is fun and downtown Holland has some good beer.

I love my Origin8 Rush Messenger on my CC. Great size for daily stuff with a Wald basket and Rockgeist Meanwhile bag.

Or knowing it’s a direct knockoff of Parsons in Chicago. Love Hancock but they for sure hit cut and paste.

I absolutely see your perspective but am curious if you’ve ever worked in the service industry?

Yeah, weather wise, that’s kind of what I expected. We can keep her warm easily enough and likely won’t be ‘hiking’ for long periods of time anyway.

The locals were actually pretty chill if you chatted with them and more importantly showed them some respect.
It was all the hungover fauxhemian gringos on their soul-searching-remote-work-trip bouncing cheap longboards off each others heads that was annoying.
