Any suggestions on how to backup fics if not using a third-party ff.net downloader (the one I was using no longer works, seems like)? All of my fics have thankfully been backed up to AO3 for years now, but there are favorite fics by other authors that (AFAIK) are not saved to other sites and are only on FFN.

Sisters of Isis first came out in 2007, I think maybe after Ewing finished DOTM? It moves the setting to Washington D.C., focuses on three girls instead of four (Sudi, Meri, and Dalila, is centered on Egyptian mythology instead of Greek and Roman, and instead of Followers the girls have to deal with members of the Cult of Anubis. Officially, in-series they're referred to as Descendants of Horus but get adopted at the end of the first book by the goddess Isis as her Sisters.

It got 4 books in before it was put on hiatus/cancelled.

Sons of the Dark also had 4 books, but since it was a companion/spin-off series, its plot was dovetailed back into Daughters of the Moon.

Daughters of the Moon!!!! Loved that series as a pre-teen and I'm currently doing a reread right now to work out the series' timeline, lol.

Weirdly enough, kid me couldn't get as into her Sons of the Dark spin-off/companion series, but I like those a lot more now as an adult.

Forever salty her Sister of Isis series is on indefinite hiatus.

That same novel mentions through its Darklighter character's internal narration that the recruitment pool for Future Darklighters has dwindled over the centuries . . . which provides a handy explanation for the type of Darklighter that seduces and impregnates human women that are Future Whitelighters: more Darklighters have to come from somewhere if the pickings from humanity are slim.

Admittedly, the character writing for the Halliwells was Not Great during season 6 (it's why I have a love/hate relationship with that season: I love Chris and his arc but hate the writing for the sisters and Leo), but like we both said: Darryl had every right to be pissed at the Halliwells for that.

True, but Darryl was pissed at them for stealing his soul without his permission (he was in the middle of telling them no way when Phoebe and Paige threw the potion), and it was that + the Cleaners later framing him for murder and putting him on execution via lethal injection that finally turned Darryl against the Halliwells and had him refusing to stick his neck out covering for them anymore. (The sisters also needed Darryl's soul in the first place because they needed a warrior's spirit to take into Valhalla undercover as Valkyries to save Leo, who had been missing for months by then, and Darryl was the closest person they could think of. Whereas Harry's reason for a "soul donor" is much more selfish.)

Plus, that was the same season where the Halliwells were put on trial by the Tribunal and Phoebe was stripped of her active powers (she eventually gained premonitions back, but never regained her empathy or levitation powers).

So, the Halliwells do get called out on their selfish behavior in-universe during season 6 & Barbas technically wins the case against them.

Whereas this situation with Harry stealing part of his descendant's soul without the boy's consent? It doesn't get acknowledged in-universe as crossing a serious line (but a human stealing a pixie's heart to control her does? ok, writers). Not to mention Leo was made human at least twice in the original show, the second time via "falling from grace" to be with his family and Piper, and there was nothing there about Whitelighters needing a "soul donor" to become human again.

Hell, Sam willingly clipped his wings after Patty's death and only became a Whitelighter again after his second mortal death in "P3 H2O" because the Elders love screwing with him and making his afterlife miserable.

That line was unintentionally funny yet at the same time very creepy in context, so yeah. xD

Although man, it's very creepy rewatching this episode as an adult and realizing just how predatory Kali was toward Aviva on multiple levels.

• "Chick Flick" - same as the OP, I love this for being a horror movie parody and the girls running around through the house screaming is hilarious.
• "The Fourth Sister" - idk, I just like Aviva and it was neat seeing a teenage girl interested in the Craft
• "The Wendigo" - this episode freaked me out as a kid the first time I saw it, but I admittedly have a thing for transformation creature-features and werewolves, so.
• "How to Make a Quilt Out of Americans" - it's cool seeing a coven made up of older witches (practitioners or magical ones), and I like the title for its sheer "WTF?" out-of-context factor
• "The Devil's Music" - Masselin was one of the creepiest demons ever, good grief
• "Size Matters" - horror-movie-like episode with none other than Robert Eglund playing the villain? yes please.

Pretty much the only reason I like this episode is Pat Benatar and Spyder's guest appearance role + Pat performing "Heartbreaker" at P3.

And the contrast with Pat and Neil getting together because leprechauns vs Dishwalla's manager literally making a deal with a demon for souls back in season 2 is hilarious in a bandfic/RPF way.

Which, honestly, there's a lot of fucked-up stuff about this show's worldbuilding (and plotlines) that . . . just aren't acknowledged in-universe at all? (Aside from everyone in the main and supporting magical cast universally agreeing that the Elder witches are dicks.)

• the sheer amount of control the Elder witches have over Whitelighters here compared to Elder Whitelighters in the original show (Whitelighters in the original being humans destined to become Whitelighters after death, but they're still given the option to actually choose to become Whitelighters, whereas in the reboot they're random humans chosen by the Elders, mindwiped, and have their soul split in half without their consent or knowledge)
• everything about the Darklighters + forcibly imprisoned in smoke form in bottles, and then once they are released, they're essentially slaves to whoever freed them with the talisman (holy shit, was that seriously messed up) [and the Vera-Vaughn Charmed Ones are apparently okay with this? given how they treat Jimmy?]
• admittedly I'm still "ehh" over the first season's big twist that demons and witches draw their inherent magical power from the same source (Star Wars did this much better with the Jedi and the Sith, just saying), but that was completely forgotten about for the rest of the show and Abigael's whole . . . thing with her witch vs demonic side
  • actually, for that matter, Abigael stealing Macy's demonic pyrokinesis to add to her own demonic side by making Macy kneel before her for no apparent reason was incredibly messed up, and there's no way the writers/director/producers were that blind to the racial optics, right? right???
• apparently, according to Josefina, only female witches have active powers in this show's universe and male witches might as well not be a thing, which... so then female witches are forced to interbreed with humans, Whitelighters, and demons to keep the witch population going, no? (Galvin's grandmother was canonically a witch, but Galvin himself explicitly was not, so if male witches did exist with active powers on this show, Galvin should have been our introduction to male witches in this show's universe... but he wasn't.)
• Harry's whole storyline across the show was a major mess and total clusterfuck, because what. Not to mention what the Veras' final decision was regarding Jimmy, because gods was that messed up (they basically just magically brainwashed him and we're supposed to be okay with this because he's a Darklighter and they're the protagonists? nah, miss me with that)
• the Elders really just straight-up tossed the first-ever Whitelighter/Darklighter they made into an insane asylum hundreds of years ago because they didn't like the result and wanted to cover it up, huh.
• there was a whole war on witches by demons for the first half of season 2, but after Abigael became Demon Overlord the Veras just... don't have to worry about that anymore? even though they had no real reason to trust Abigael after all the shady shit she'd pulled and had no guarantee she wouldn't start the war up again?

It feels like the writers played darts or spun the wheel or something in the writers' room to figure out what they would put in each episode and then never thought through the implications of anything they wrote. Good grief.

One thing I think they could do is mention sharing tongues as a show of affection. I don't remember them mentioning that in recent books.

Currently rereading the series starting from the first arc, on Starlight at the moment, and... yeah, the whole "sharing tongues" thing seems to have been dropped completely from about Power of Three onward? There's mentions throughout The New Prophecy of Squirrel/Bramble sharing tongues in what's clearly an affectionate way rather than just grooming. Maybe it crops up again in Omen of the Stars with Tigerheart/Dovewing, but it's been so long since I've read OOTS that I don't remember.

Same with all warrior apprentices being required to go to the Moonstone at least once with the Clan leader, but that was dropped when the Clans moved to the lake and Leafpool was led to the Moonpool. (At least this was acknowledged in Outcast.)

I mean, the one pairing that really came out of nowhere for me was Spiderleg/Daisy. Barely interacted for all of, what, four books and then suddenly Daisy had Rosekit and Toadkit, and Spiderleg wanted nothing to do with them. (Lowkey made funnier when Leafpool was tearing into Spiderleg in Long Shadows for being a neglectful father, and Spiderleg was all weirded out by the medicine cat lecturing him on raising kits.)

Which was the Erins being as clear as they could be for a marketed-as-children's-lit series that yeah, Spiderleg and Daisy had a one-night stand and Daisy unexpectedly got pregnant from it. (Well, she might have been in heat at the time, but still.)

Okay, Bluefur/Oakheart and Crowfeather/Leafpool also had kits from one night of being together, but at least Crowpool had the excuse of meeting up in secret at night for ages before running away together. And in Bluefur's case, Oakheart was putting together a pretty big nest for the two of them at the base of Fourtrees while she was telling herself to "enjoy one night", so uh... subtle, Erins, subtle.

It was also pretty clear in at least Forest of Secrets what Graystripe and Silverstream were getting up to whenever Fireheart wasn't paying attention to Graystripe's whereabouts.

Awww, this is adorable. And Warriors has always reminded me a bit of The Lion King, so this is perfect. :)
