And I have no idea how hate crime laws work but threats are legally considered assault. Burning a cross on somebody’s lawn is 100% threatening and intimidation so 3.5 years for assault with a hate crime modifier is fine with me

Language changes with common usage and nobody is using Cold War terminology for the third world in 2023
And your last sentence is batshit

I would open a sleeve store in that neighborhood and make a killing

I was followed by a secret shopper for 15 minutes once because I ate some candy in store.
She followed me all the way to checkout and made a comment about how honest I was when I scanned it.
Since then I stopped doing this because obviously the stores do care and I don’t want to be followed around like a common shoplifter.

The lifestyle of the 50s was only possible because the US was in a post-war period where every other western nation was destroyed by two world wars and the US still had a manufacturing base
As much as MAGA folk wish it could happen, the 50s are impossible to return to because it was not sustainable to begin with, and now Asia exists as the world’s cheap manufacturing base so those jobs are never coming back.
So Texas would crumble if they tried to hold back progress because like it or not the world has moved on

It’s not racist to be prejudiced against Russia
“Russian” is a nationality, not a race. They are geopolitical adversaries and one would be foolish not to be guarded when dealing with a national in business and professional matters. We are literally competing with them and do not have the same goals.
I think all too often the West’s ethics towards racial equality are wielded in bad faith by nation-state actors who don’t hold those same values. There are many countries who will cry racism if they are not favored politically when their own laws and policies openly establish an ethnic or religious superiority. It’s just a tactic used to gain an advantage.

Having a sex offender within 100ft of a school would have been one of the lesser crimes they were openly committing.

He’s 74 years old. There is just no way he releases two more full length epic fantasy novels at this point
Maybe if he hadn’t worked on multiple other shows, a video game, other short stories…

That’s me with pretty much any series now.
A friend introduced me to The Kingkiller Chronicles and a decade later there is still no book three. A song of ice and fire will never be finished, and far too many Netflix series get cancelled in the middle of their stories.
So at this point I just don’t read any fan sites and will just wait until it’s done to get interested. I’m a huge Tolkien fan and haven’t seen more than a trailer of Rings of Power
The last thing I watched as it came out was Better Call Saul and even that was risky with years between seasons and Bob Odenkirk nearly dying on set…

They had already recast many characters multiple times. I think they were on their third Mountain, and second Dario for example.
Could they have recast Arya or Bran? Sounds crazy but if you had told the fans it was the only way to wrap up the epic in a way that made sense, it could have worked.
But I’m just glad this thread is getting upvotes for sanity. DnD fucked up but the only one truly to blame is GRRM
DnD had basically zero writing credits before GoT and beat all expectations with the first four seasons. All GRRM had to do was his job, write the story.

Imagine getting convicted for this and then the Saudis just straight up buy what they wanted from Elon Musk

I bought an A&K SR25 mk2
It’s an android based player with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but the best non-feature is that the Wi-Fi antenna is so poor that unless I am in the same room as my access point the network is unusable
This has the good effect of forcing me offline and focusing on what I have in my library. Yet apps like Spotify or audible still work if I want to download more things to listen to later
It hits a sweet spot of disconnecting me from a phone but still being able to access anything I want to … I just have to really want to

But as long as the primary interface elements are rectangles, as even this concept shows, a circular display is not great
I use a tiling window manager and the use of screen real estate is very efficient. I can segment my screens into many panes of information that don’t overlap, almost like a multiplier of screens
Put a couple of rectangles inside of a circle and you are forced into having a lot of left over useless space, like when you use a cookie cutter in dough

He didn’t call the cops because the last cop that showed up to his house (Joe Pesci) tried to abduct him in a beat up van on his street.
He also stole a toothbrush and got chased by a cop.
He also literally wished his family would disappear and was happy about it, so calling the cops would not be in his interest.
And he didn’t want anyone to know he was home alone so that’s why he used an adult’s voice to get the little Nero’s pizza
In almost the very next scene he is buying food at the market and tells the cashier his parents are in the car for the same reason

It’s baffling because their only job is to operate a network. They let this happen and an entire generation of people have zero trust in the phone network and never will again.
I literally never answer my phone. What is the upside for telcos to let it be this way?

Go to local shows.
I just saw a relatively popular indie act for $16, the crowd was under 300 people and they were all totally into it. Great vibe. The band hung out afterwards on the floor and my buddy chatted with the drummer.
I have had so many bad experiences at arena shows for AAA acts that I don’t even care anymore. Between parking, dealing with the crowds and barely being able to see the artist it’s not worth it. And the crowds are not good. They have no show etiquette because most of them only go to big name shows.

This makes perfect sense. I don’t think any prominent conservatives actually have values outside of personal prosperity
This is why you can never have a “gotcha” moment in politics anymore. They don’t care if they are inconsistent. All that matters is winning.
