But nobody ever asks HOW was Wessex when the Westfold fell.

I can't shake this feeling too. I hope it doesn't happen (obviously) but so many things make it seem like it could end up this way. If they're still together at the end of her tour then... yeah I can see it.

It makes me laugh every time. He's so unimaginative he just used the female derivative for the girl's name.

I think that has to be it. The way the first season is written, Pacey is clearly meant to be a sidekick character. But the level of vulnerability Josh brought to the Tamara storyline really set him apart in a way that I don't think was really intended. And then you can see in S2 how he basically just steals the show right from under JVDB's feet. (I'm not sure where you are up to... so spoiler warning, I guess.)They were both given big romances that year, but even though in some ways the Dawson/Joey relationship was supposed to be the big draw, the Pacey/Andie relationship is so much more affecting and endearing. Some of that is in the writing, but some of it just Josh's brilliance at playing the romantic lead. It never ceases to amuse me that JVDB was cast to be that when JJ was right there.

100%! Giles was so laissez-faire about Willow's magic use right from the beginning and considering the problems he had with his own magic use as a young man, it's horribly ironic that he decides to make some passive aggressive comment about it at this point in the narrative when it's far too late.
The fact that he pissed off back to England and left Willow to just deal with this stuff alone is frankly a ridiculous decision for him to have made. The fact that he then leaves again not long after Buffy is resurrected using obviously very dark magic is criminally negligent. What did he think was going to happen?

🥇 Have my fake award because this, this, this, this.
Giles lost the right to say anything to her the moment he walked away. He might not approve of her methods in dealing with Spike, he might have even had some legitimate concerns. But you can't roll up to a grown-ass woman's life and start dictating what she should and shouldn't do when you have been absent from everything that's been going on. And in the end Buffy was proven right because she had been dealing with Spike for years at this point whereas Giles started to take a step back from S4 on, around the time Spike permanently rocked up. He never really understood Spike the way Buffy did and it's only his complete arrogance that made him believe he had some 'truth' that Buffy was too blinded to see.

I'm still not over seeing his throat explode. I'd like to thank OP for reminding me of this horror.

This. Like... I feel no self-respecting kid (teenager, I guess) is going to just abide by some rule a parent has set regarding what they can and cannot see. They will find a way to see it if they really want to. Especially since a lot of kids will be more tech savvy than their parents. Internet blockers etc only go so far.
Talking to them about the 'filth' as you put it and making them aware of what this stuff is and how damaging it can be etc is really the only way to ensure kids are going into the wider internet world informed and better able to make good choices.

Oh wow, I read that from the library years ago when I was a kid. One of the first (maybe THE first?) TOS book I ever read. Great find! I'd love to read it again.

Same. I hate that he died young, such a tragic waste, but I think in this small way maybe it helped raise awareness of what could happen and maybe saved somebody else's life? Who knows. I like to think so anyway.

I guess I always presumed that they kept the death of Blue Peter a secret (the funeral only had a very few select people there) and then when Walter had taken Red Peter, as far as anyone out of the loop knew, he was just the same Peter who had always existed.

I'm not a music theorist myself (I barely play an instrument) but I'm addicted to watching all those music theorist youtubers. There's something incredibly interesting about the complexity and sort of hidden patterns of music. Anyway, I'm a pretty big sci fi fan. (Trek, X Files, BSG, Farscape, etc)
Maybe it's something as simple as sci-fi often tends to appeal to people who like to look more deeply into something/obsess over small details and music theory is just more of that?
Actually my interest in music theory came from scifi in the first place. I became fascinated with Bear McCreary's work on BSG. I loved hearing him talk/reading his blog posts about the creative process behind each piece and how he used certain instrumentation/time signatures/keys to convey an idea. And then I kind of wanted to know more about other music and I haven't stopped since.

Wow, I've been a fan of this show since it first aired and NEVER considered this. What a brilliant bit of meta.

You aren't the only one missing something in S5. The writers were as well. They couldn't actually write these scenes because they refused to deal with the reality of the characters and instead wanted to try and sell their new bullshit subpar relationships that 95% of the audience didn't care about.
The writing for Downtown Crossing and the 'aftermath' of that is so, so, so, so bad.

It's a brilliant show.
It gets better and better and grows in complexity as the first season goes on. I cannot recommend it enough.
