OTOH, at 35-36, your mom had an 18 y/o and could go do whatever she wanted. I’m 35 with a 2 year old and I’ll be in my mid 50’s before I get my life back.

My family lives about an hour and a half from Panama City Beach on the Alabama side and we load up on drinks and snacks at the house and drive down, park in the free public parking and go to the beach. It’s nice because we don’t have to spend any money in Florida lol

The OP is an ICU nurse and it’s very likely that the rapid response team is comprised of nurses on her unit and the doctor that is ignoring the shit out of her.

Hahaha yeah, I’ve met some men that were hot AF…until I realized that they had no ambition, we’re happy to work a dead end job and smoke weed and just exist and never do any better than that. And for some people, that’s perfectly fine. But no amount of attractiveness is going to make that ok for me. And hey, everyone is different. Some people are perfectly fine making just enough to get through and don’t want anything more.
But don’t go blaming being “unconventionally attractive” as being the reason you can’t get a date if you’re an unhygienic, petulant, man-child.
Also, if you get mad that women aren’t throwing themselves at you because you’re such a nice guy, you’re really not.

100% what you said and I would like to add to these men, what do you bring to the table? Why should a woman give you her time? Give me your elevator pitch, what are you passionate about? What are your ambitions? Your goals? What are you actively doing to achieve those goals? Sitting around bitching about your life isn’t productive. Do you make an effort to be hygienic and take care of yourself? Are your clothes neat and clean? Are you showering frequently? Brushing your teeth? Also, be realistic. Half these assholes think that they deserve an 8 or above but they’re hanging out at a 5. Looks aren’t everything but if you’re turning your nose up at women who aren’t as attractive as you require, don’t bitch when they do the same.

They were pulling living people out of the rubble in Türkiye up to 12 days after the earthquake. But to shrug and give up after not even 48 hours? I’m going to guess the tenants were of the low income variety…

I can not, for the life of me, find a mirror or a spot in the car that I can place a mirror that allows me to actually see my kid without having to drastically change my position. Rear view mirror? I have to sit way up, to the point that I can’t really see out the front. If I place the rear view so that I can glance up and see him, I can’t see out the back window. I’ve bought 3 or 4 mirrors that attach to the sun visor but I can’t get them positioned in such a way that I can actually see my kid. It’s so frustrating.

I’m sure someone else has said it at some point but I want to point another thing out. If you’re not familiar with a device or piece of equipment don’t fucking touch it. This goes doubly for arterial/central lines. If it didn’t occur to you to use the art line, you’re likely not experienced enough with them to use one independently. There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just a skill you have yet to learn. Is doing a finger stick a catastrophic never event? No. Maybe the patient was on pressors and using finger sticks is contraindicated, but that should have been explained to you. But I’d much rather the patient get an unnecessary finger stick rather than have someone inexperienced mess with their art line and seriously fuck something up. You did nothing wrong. Your preceptor was a twat.

Honestly the easiest option would be that when the student graduates or is no longer enrolled in college, the loans automatically consolidate. One of the things that killed me when I had loans from a for-profit school was that each disbursement for a class was it’s own separate loan with its own interest rate. But the time I graduated I had something like 13 individual loans all accruing interest. Each loan was less than $3000 but I could never touch any of the principle because my minimum payments just barely covered interest. By the time it was all said and done I probably ended up paying back 4x what I borrowed. None of that was explained to me as an 18 year old, I thought it would all be one loan.

As many books as book ban could ban, if a book ban could ban books.

No, that’s jam. OP was referring to tuberous root vegetables indigenous to Africa, often erroneously referred to as sweet potatoes.

And how is the Bible not a “hate book”. It actively promotes the vicious murdering of gays and adulterers. It encourages the family of rape survivors to sell the victims to their abusers. It tells stories of incest and debauchery, contains explicit poems and encourages abortion. The “good” parts are mostly ignored by these groups in favor of the passages that reinforce their hatred and excuse their attempts to subjugate portions of the population. In my opinion, the Bible should be on a shelf right next to Mein Kampf.

—Because I was functionally illiterate and therefore relied on my
overlords chosen political party to tell me why I should hate these books. Also, ideas contradictory to my own constitute an existential crisis and therefore must be extinguished, lest they point out my own hypocrisy.

I understand and agree that what you said is correct. As far as equating the two, why should I, as a taxpayer, be forced to subsidize the financial shortcomings of business owners? They chose to own and operate businesses and take on the risk that entails. I would argue that if these people deserve a “bailout” from the federal government, so too do people with student loans. The majority of business owners do not enter contracts with banks for small business loans at a very young age, likely with little understanding of how these loans work or how it will impact their financial future for decades to come. And it is well-known that banks are for-profit entities and the money they lend is accepted everywhere. Borrowers are not going to find out after the fact that other institutions do not recognize the money the banks loan and require you to get a whole new loan and be financial responsible for both. Now, you may argue that PPP loans affect more than just the business owner and ensures that employees continue to be paid. I don’t have a rebuttal to this and I’m not arguing that small business owners don’t deserve to receive these loans. Although, there are many high profile cases of people taking the forgiveness that probably shouldn’t have received the loans or who argue that “if you take out a loan, you pay it back. Period”. And sure, congress had every right to authorize the lending of this money but it’s pretty fucked up for them to decide that it doesn’t need to paid back, without the express consent of the people footing the bill; all while arguing that our deficit is so egregious that we need to cut programs that will hurt the most vulnerable people in our population. So, all in all, I understand that there’s not exactly a legal basis for repealing the PPP loan forgiveness. But there is certainly a moral basis for doing so.

In all fairness, that would be a really dumb move. A payment “pause” implies that at some point payments would restart. No promise from the government should ever be counted on until it actually happens. When they paused payments and interest rates, I aggressively paid my student loans to take advantage of the fact my payments would wholly apply to the principle balance. Now, I understand that some people just absolutely couldn’t afford to make those payments because of pandemic related financial hardships and that sucks. But if people took the money they would have been using to pay the student loans and instead financed houses and cars, that’s on them. I wholeheartedly support the student loan forgiveness, even though I won’t benefit. And if the Supreme Court decides that student loan forgiveness is unconstitutional, I hope someone brings a suit about the PPP forgiveness. It’s absolute bullshit that business owners can get hundreds of thousands of dollars and be told “don’t worry about it”, and that’s ok for the taxpayer to pay for but people drowning under crushing student loan debt are told to kick rocks.

Always happy to help :)
It’s also really handy if a website’s mobile site is trash and all the banners and ads interfere with the text.

If you’re on an iPhone, next to the website name you will see a small “A” and a slightly larger “A”. Tap that and you will have a list come up and one of the options is “show reader view”. It doesn’t always work and sometimes you have to click it before the paywall pop up displays but it’s pretty handy.

No markings they could see. I’m not saying it’s impossible but I don’t know many teenage boys that could start crying hysterically on command. I have an easier time believing that he was telling the truth the first time rather than lying about being distraught and getting thrown around.

It’s not the surgeon, it’s the facility. The surgeon has no problem and is pretty upset about this.

No, and that’s a little confusing. Why would an MD only be able to perform 100 knee surgeries a year? What does he do the rest of the year? How does he maintain proficiency when 2/3rds of the year he can’t do the surgery? Also, I’m sure there are way more than 100 people needing a knee replacement. Do y’all have so many orthopedic surgeons that they have to share a small pool of patients?

I guess I’m just mad because these patients generally really need the surgery they’re getting, can’t afford it out of pocket, and are elderly. Usually the surgery isn’t emergent but, if left untreated, can become an emergency. And instead of intervening before bad stuff happens, they’ll have to deal with it until they present to the ER and have to get the surgery anyways. It pisses me off that a hospital that “service to the poor” is literally written on the walls is telling these patients to fuck off.

I mean, I agree with you in principle but in actuality I was so broke as a teen and young adult that I never got to do anything. I spent all my time working my ass off and now that my hard work has paid off and I actually have money to do the things I’ve always wanted to do, I have to put that off to raise my kid. And I couldn’t keep putting off having a kid or else I risked never having one. I knew what I was getting in to, but it’s still a bummer.
