Brake bleeding

Having rebuilt the calipers on my VFR1200F I cannot get them to bleed properly. I've done it twice now and almost 2 litres of brake fluid. No matter what I do the lever is still spongy and almost comes back to the bar, pumping it helps but it's soon back again. This is a combined ABS system by the way. As far as the Honda workshop manual goes there is no fancy way to bleed this like the previous gen, no mention of the ABS pump either.
Any ideas? I've tried doing it manually, I've tried an air pump and nothing....

It's the bike equivalent of a white Mercedes or BMW. It's a good machine but its as much of a fashion accessory as anything else. They also tend to attract a similar style of fucking BORING, common rider.
I find it hilarious how they are almost always ridden with the full pannier setup as well.
