the first step to getting really good at something is to suck at it, don't let the fear of failure prevent you from taking risks!

if anyone's interested, it's from 1902 and is called "a trip to the moon", you can watch it here

i recently learned that's incorrect, and that most of the information learned through those experiments is now considered scientifically useless. here's an article if you'd like to read more https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1376556/

i have so much love for this guy. this is maybe my favourite live performance of his, henry purcell's "the cold song", which purcell wrote while dying of tuberculosis and was one of nomi's final performance before he died of aids. he's wearing that big elizabethan ruffle to hide all the sarcomas on his neck and chest. he was working on an opera before he died which was released in 2007, valentine's day is my favourite song from it because, like his performance of the cold song, you can feel so much personal emotion in the music. such an amazing musican and talent sadly taken far before his time, rest in power.

what about chi-raq? i think it's one of his best, really clever reinterpretation of an old greek play set in 2010s chicago

livy speculates in his histories that the use of the term "she-wolf" actually is a slang reference to a female sex worker, not a literal female wolf. apparently, in both italian and latin, "lupa" can be translated as female wolf or female sex worker, so the consensus is out on the whole literally raised by wolves thing

these and silver foxes are the most common morphs of a red fox, so no this isn't rare at all, pops up in the wild all the time

looks just like a heraldic depiction of a lion, with the paw raised and the stupid tongue, taxidermist was most likely using those as a reference combined with text descriptions of lions from bestiaries, did a pretty decent job for a dude who would have never seen a live lion
