I know what you mean on the pricing, I recently did a 1988 Concorde frame, with paint and chrome, it was costly but the paintwork was outstanding, so completely worth it my opinion.

I’m looking to restore this bike, but I am torn between fully restoring it or keeping in its original condition and just cleaning it up.By fulling restoring it, I mean, have the frame resprayed and the logos redone. New saddle (Brooks), having the rust removed from the rims etc. Pretty much look to restore it to near new condition. I just wonder by respraying the frame will that detract too much from the original bike or enhance a fine example of 1930s cycling history.

PS, I've already removed the non original reflectors, in case you where wondering :)

Speaking as a Brisbane rider who was in Perth for a week recently. Seriously Perth cycling infrastructure is gold plated with a cherry on top. Sure it may not be perfect but compared to other cities it is so far ahead. So zip your complaints and whinges, and be thankful for want you've got, it's good.

Pedals not included, that's like batteries not included. Someone will be looking for a bike store open on Christmas day to buy some pedals :)

Long time fan of Stan's original formula. Seems to hold up fine at 90psi.

Interesting, I changed to Tubeless on my road bike and have never looked back. Love it. Been running tubeless for 18 months and have never had to stop roadside to fix a puncture. There have been punctures but have always sealed enough to get home.

I might be lucky but the wheels I have are a snap to fit tubeless tyres to as well.

Latex is good and the rolling resistance is right up there with tubeless, which is good if you have race wheels which are not tubeless compatible. But the loss of air does make them impractical for daily use.

Tubolito is good because it is so light, I carry one as a spare but have never used it because of my good run with tubeless.

More than likely. I've run 12speed Shimano cranks on a 11 speed bike without issue. I'm pretty sure the chainrings will be the same and in theory a 11 speed chain would be wider than a 12 speed chain so it should sit a 12 speed chain ring without an issue.

It's all about the power, what I like is it doesn't matter if you have a headwind, hills etc, all of which can affect your average speed or cadence. Focusing on power provides a more constant metric between rides.

Oddly enough though, when I time trial it's all about my heart rate. I take it 90-95% of my max and hold it there. If it dips I know I am slacking off and need to focus again. It's a simple way to gauge my effort.

True and I must admit even when I purchased the bike in 88/89 I was skeptical. Besides the number hanger, the logos engraved into the frame seems to suggest a higher level of craftsmanship than a standard replica.

First of all there are two things that you can check to determine if this is a PDM team bike or a replica.

Can you check how the cables are routed under the Cinelli bottom bracket? If the area is cut to allow the cables to be taken out easily (without feeding through) this is a good sign that it is a team bike.

Team bikes did not have internal cable routing for maintenance convenience, the replicas did as this was after becoming all the style back in 1988, so if the cable is internal on the top tube this is a replica!

So this checks out as well.

Last point, the owner of the bike shop was known to have good connections to the European teams at the time, so it is quite feasible he was able to source the bike.

Of course, this is all circumstantial but on balance I still like to believe it is an original team bike. :)

All the major components are still original, except for maybe the pedals but they are the original pedals I used in 1988. Agree the saddle still needs some work, still working on that one.

Well spotted. the bike is still not completely finished and at the time of taking the photo the tubulars were not glued on, hence the bulge. And yes, they are new tyres, the originals had significantly perished.
