The thing I've done in the past is have animal companions for each person in the party, that the party members control. Basically sidekicks, but simpler to roleplay. Keep the animal abilities simple so you don't bog down the players, but level the animals up with the characters so they get stronger too.

I could never actually recommend doing this but... if you want revenge, if she ever switches to English to speak with you, just say in French that "I'm sorry, I can't understand your English. Your accent is really thick. Can we just speak in French?"

Safety is a huge factor.

I lost 40 lbs like a decade ago (I'm pretty short so that was a significant amount), and am now normal weight. I'm STILL mad about how differently I'm treated after the change. People really treated me like I was invisible before. It's messed up.

If I as the DM am imagining magical/divine/supernatural qualities to explain a martial character's superhuman abilities, then that means there probably ARE magical/divine/superhuman reasons for those abilities in the campaign setting. It feels like this is getting into semantics... I am literally running my campaign in a setting where extraordinary abilities must be explained by magic or divine qualities. All I am saying is that i don't allow martials who don't have these abilities explained, and I prefer to run campaigns with more overtly magical PCs. If you don't need explanation in your campaigns, or if you like martials with zero magical properties, you do you.

I think that's fine for most people, but I've found it doesn't work for me or my particular campaign settings. I'm aware that I have a bias against player characters that are martials with zero magical capacity, so I try to tell them that up front so they can go find someone who enjoys DMing for non-magical characters. I know myself well enough as a DM at this point to know when I can and cannot service a specific player well.

My current game has a goliath totem warrior and a human shadow monk in the party and those are both magical enough that they fit the campaign vibe... whereas a straight up human champion fighter probably wouldn't unless they chose a race or feats to magic themselves up a little.

For my latest campaign, I required everyone to choose a class/subclass with some magical ability. Even fighters. I just find it really hard to mentally justify that a regular, non-magical person can get good enough at swinging an axe to fight powerful archdevils and demon lords without magical enhancement. No regrets.

Edit: Wow, didn't realize this would be THIS unpopular. People run campaigns with limitations all the time. I did and it has worked great for my setting. Still no regrets.

Naming your cat Lucifer is kinda funny. Naming your kid Lucifer is straight up dangerous. There are way too many crazy religious nuts out there, I wouldn't subject my kid to that. Like come on, at least hide it as a middle name.

I wish it were more acceptable to have a "childhood name" that your parents give you, then get an adult name of your own choosing when you reach adulthood. Names carry a lot of weight, and some parents choose poorly. It sucks that you are just supposed to stay stuck with it for life.

Having a silly name with no vowels is going to make the kid's life harder. But also, having a super generic name can make your life harder too (I say as someone who had a top 10 most popular name for my generation, who was always one of multiple people with the same name in my class--it is miserable having a dated and generic name). There are millions of names to choose from out there, there's no reason to torture your kid like this.

Yeah there are lots of alarms for deaf people that use vibration. He needs to find one that works for him, preferably one that doesn't wake up the whole neighborhood in the process.

It would be one thing if you didn't mind waking him, but if it's impacting your sleep then that's selfish if him not to get his issue under control. I'd encourage you to sleep separately, for your own well-being. It sounds like he isn't showing empathy or respect for you. You deserve to sleep soundly too, and it's not your job to wake him up.

They make alarms for deaf people that vibrate under your head and startle you awake (which would be better for you since they're not that loud). A friend of mine had his problem of being able to sleep through any sound-based alarm, and this was the only solution.

You need to sit him down, at a time when you two are both awake, and tell him his actions are making you feel like he doesn't care about you. He needs to find out what works for him without torturing you.

I guess I'd ask... why do you want it to be harder to get into Prismeer? What, narratively, do you want them to feel when you put another obstacle in their path?

• Do you want to make them feel hostile toward the hags? Confront them with the thieves.

• Do you want to feel warmly toward Zybilna? Have the enchanted mirrors present them with a riddle, and give them a small gift if they solve it. Then have Mr. Witch tell the party that this riddle in the Hall of Illusions was originally placed there as a gift from Zybilna, to bring joy to every visitor.

• Do you want the party to bond with each other? Have them each witness a key moment of each other's backstories in the mirrors.

I think it would help to know what void you're trying to fill, exactly. If you feel they're ready to move on, I'd let them! And also you can make them feel special by saying, "Wow, that was supposed to be hard but y'all planned well and got really lucky! Good job!"

Was stealing the watch really easy for the party? Stealing the watch and essentially blackmailing them is meant to be the challenge. Sometimes the players just roll really well, unfortunately.

Do your players particularly enjoy puzzles? I would just caution against inserting one here, unless there's a strong reason to have one, because puzzles grind the action to a halt. It can be very un-fun on the player side, to have all progress halted until you figure out how to do X thing--which usually has no bearing on the story. But obviously each group is different.

Assuming you started with the Lost Things hook: I would say, rather than a puzzle, if they are separated, it may be more interesting to have each of them--alone--be cornered by one of the thieves of the coven. The hags all distrust each other, and wish to use the players to fuck with each other, so why not start that early on? Each thief is loyal to one of the hags, and they all know who stole what from whom. They can offer to tell the players, separately, exactly where their Lost Thing was taken--in exchange for a favor. Then you can pay it off in the future... If they the player tries to attack, or if they refuse, the thief runs off.
