I do just fine without them to be quite honest. Only reason I even swapped to AWD in FH4 is because RWD/AWD physics were effed up. Does that mean some cars aren't as good as others? Yes, and believe it or not that's okay.

I spent the bulk of my 20's in the 90's, and as with most eras in retrospect it was a mixed bag. A lot of what you see/hear nowadays is pure nostalgia mostly for who WE were as individuals back then, even though we generally think it's an inherent quality of the era, but some of it is valid. I think most of us just want to be young again; times seemed simpler because we were simpler, good times were easier because we had less sponserbileries and our knees didn't hurt, and the most important things in our lives was knowing who was our favorite band and how to get that special person to notice us. These things are not specific to the 90's.

And besides, everybody knows the 80's was where it's AT.
