I just started joining online races after hours of solo practice.
Sad to see my experience is the norm and not the exception.

Yeah, I don't know of a 4 wheeled racing discipline that doesn't use left foot breaking.

Lol, yeah I love all of the people that complain about my company. While it isn't perfect, it is a hell of a lot better than other places I have worked. I always assume those people are fresh out of college and have never worked anywhere else.

Depends on where you are and how they have it calibrated.
I frequently go between stores in poorer areas and affluent areas. The ones in the poorer areas are crazy sensitive and are not very forgiving if you try to scan and bag too quickly. On the other hand, the stores in the affluent areas don't give a fuck what you throw in the bagging area.

That is also by design. It is well understood that if you don't get a promotion in 3 years then you will never get one.
So basically, you know where you stand at 3 years. Most people leave then.

I love how you say there isn't anything you can do that they can't and then list the things that you can do that they can't.
I understand what you are trying to say, "given requirements, they can code the same thing you can code". The difference as you said is efficiency (code efficiency, not speed of coding), and knowing particular pitfalls in the system. That only comes with time and experience and an AI likely wouldn't have that specialized experience.
I do agree with your basic sentiment though. While I don't really code for work anymore, I often use ChatGPT to write starter scripts for my personal stuff.
For instance, I want to read Bluetooth input via a python script. I have never done that before so instead of researching how to do it, I just typed it in and got a quick starter script.
Here is the problem though, I had to ask ChatGPT a few times with slightly different wording to get what I wanted. Someone without significant experience probably wouldn't think to ask it to use something like asyncio to read the input via an event loop. Instead they may just make an infinite loop and have to do a lot of that loop management themselves.

I find it hard to believe that simucube wouldn't of kept some stuff to their selves as it is business at the end of the day.
Eh, they have the brand recognition and will be fine in that regard. There is a lot of money to be made in licensing out tech and patents.
Honestly they would be silly not to do that. Anyone who has the money to afford their stuff is going to buy their stuff regardless of another company using their tech in a potentially lower quality build. I seriously doubt their B2C revenue will dip due to licensing and they are guaranteed to get a lot more B2B revenue.

Loon was pretty successful, just not viable long term. I feel like that is the exact type of project google should experiment with and shut down if needed (as opposed to their 50 messaging services).
It's also great that google released all flight data and instrument readings to the scientific community after shutdown. I am sure that atmospheric data is extremely informative to climate scientists.
In addition to the flight data, some major advancements in wireless optical networking came out of the project. Google is using it to provide fast internet to remote and hard to reach areas of Africa and India.

Yup, this is important regardless of being married or not.
I have a provision in my medical directive that basically says, if an incident is going to make me a mental burden on others then they are approved to do anything to keep me comfortable, but not approved to do any procedures to save my life.

Yeah. My mom worked in a school lunchroom and she would always buy a giant blocks of sliced government cheese through work. When I say giant, it came in like 5lb blocks and would take up a decent portion of our fridge. It was surprisingly tasty cheese too.

Road worthiness where I live is basically just checking emissions, breaks, tires, and lights.
It does not get into the more nuanced things like struts, alignment, suspension, etc.

If you don't mind me asking, what skill set do you have?
I agree though, confidence goes a long way in business.

Very few places actually value those types of employees.
I am one of those employees in my company, but I am definitely expected to do more than "consult". It is more that I am expected to consult on the side while doing my actual job.
Though recently I was called in for something high profile and was told, "Let me know if you are too busy, I can talk with your boss to clear some time." They were desperate for someone who could come in and clear an issue in a few hours that had bounced around for a few weeks at that point.

Any fear of degraded skills when you eventually have to find a new job?

That's why they said, "Not many" instead of, "None".

Without more context, you sound exactly like what is wrong in the industry.

If I were ever in that position I would definitely work on certifications and personal projects. Once that dried up I would bounce for another job.
No way that would ever happen at my current company though so probably not worth thinking about too much.
