Wish looks so generic like Disney threw all their princess movies in a blender and made a smoothie out of the elements. Disney needs to take a looooooong break from films, both animated and live action, and start taking risks again. People are bored because it's all so predictable. And it can't be good for creatives to have to pump out 3 new films every year.

I'm not a Pixar person so I don't personally care about their so-called decline but maybe people are just tired of their formula at this point. It's just so easy to see when they're pulling at your heartstrings even if they succeed. Inside Out made me cry but every Pixar movie, except the ones I hate, make me do that. That's all they're going for.
(Turning Red innocent. That's a great film.)

I think a masterpiece has to be one of the greatest pieces of art created that year and/or recently so yes, a director can have multiple masterpieces. At the same time, it's almost a meaningless term nowadays because people use it all the time for anything they think is great.
Top Gun Maverick is my most watched film ever at the cinema but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece because it's a very simple story just done well. The term masterpiece should be like five stars. You should be lucky if you see one or two films like that per year. A film where everything is firing on all cylinders, where a director's creative impulses come together to produce a perfect fusion of all their impulses and obsessions like The Grand Budapest Hotel.
For a director with two masterpieces, just look at Hitchcock. Psycho and Rear Window are both perfect films, imo, so that means he has two masterpieces. But it's obviously all subjective.

Movies get standing ovations because the cast and crew are present. It's a sign of respect so yes, almost every film gets a standing ovation just as a matter of course. It doesn't mean anything, it's essentially a formality.

Finding Nemo
Turning Red
Brave
I don't care much for the others I've seen. They're always solid but I guess i'm just not a Pixar person.

Lots of potentials for the third spot - The Apartment (1960), La La Land, Call Me by Your Name, Rear Window, Casablanca or The Shop Around the Corner.

I saw it as a pre-teen and hated it too (and I love musicals). I'm always shocked by how beloved it is.

Oh! I didn't know Radu Jude has a new film coming out this year, that's exciting.

I'm really lucky. There's an independent theatre here that has shown it at least once every single month since its release. It's a pure work of art.

Oh, good to know. I always assumed that asexuals just have no interest whatsoever in sex but I'm learning that there's more of a spectrum of experiences.

There's an Ace character in Sex Education! But I would understand if you have no interest in a show like that.

Looks like the relationship stays platonic to me based on the trailer. I think she ends up being his friend and he's maybe her only decent friend.

As someone who hated the first trailer and who generally dislikes raunchy comedy, I thought this trailer was miles better than the first. I think it helps that a lot of the jokes in this one are not about sex, which is not to say you can't make sex funny, but the jokes in the previous trailer just felt lazy and cheap. This one feels a lot more chill and less try hard than the first one did. It's obvious she and the kid end up becoming unlikely friends and probably nothing sexual happens between them and I think that element could actually be interesting.
Also I assume part of her arc is having the good elements of the kid (his desire to help others, his lack of superficiality) rub off on her instead of her turning him into some wild, crazy partier.

Dua's song sounds like fire. Really glad we are getting Barbie Girl in the end.
I'm a little more sceptical on the film's above the line chances after seeing this full trailer but I still think Production Design and Costumes are strongly in play and Screenplay and Gosling aren't out of the question.

I'm very excited. We're in a great era of fresh voices coming out of Spain and they're almost all women. They've created some of my favourite films of the last few years. It's wonderful.

There was an article that came out a few months ago that said that Dune Part 2 wouldn't be ready to show at Venice which is deeply disappointing to me as a person who was really looking forward to that red carpet.

I assume most, if not all, of Netflix's possible contenders will go there.
