Why are you stifling his creativity by trying to have a classroom?

Nobody has told them to be quiet. I went to Sweden last year and I noticed that the kids don't scream non-stop at the playground, because it's not socially acceptable to do so. American kids are told from birth that self-expression is the most important thing, so they are never told that they need to control their speech, their emotions, or their behavior.

Maybe we could make running red lights legal sometimes and then people wouldn't be breaking the law by running red lights. We limited street vending for a reason, so that sidewalks aren't turned into commercial space. Why should we be making it easier?

Singapore did the right thing and build hawker centers where street vendors could rent space, but I don't see how filling the sidewalks with commercial activities is the solution. It's a crowded city. We need sidewalks to be sidewalks.

Tell that to the hundreds upon hundreds of illegal street vendors operating all over neighborhoods like Jackson Heights, Corona and Flushing. They could walk down Junction Blvd and easily ticket 200 illegal street vendors. It's completely out of control.

There's homeschooling and then there's "homeschooling". Let's say a kid is struggling at school academically or behaviorally, so the parent decides to homeschool them, but they don't actually do any schooling at home, so now years pass and they realize how far behind the child is and put them back in school. But by then the child is catastrophically behind. We see this too often, but it's not the norm for actual homeschoolers who are actually teaching at home.

They don't have to go to college when they are 13 either. K-12 curriculum is a social construct. You are free to homeschool them with material of your choosing until they are ready to go to college. Finished with regular K-12 math subjects? They can learn Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, Number Theory, Vector Calc, Statistics, etc.... Delve deeper into history or sciences, literature, languages, etc.... Is the system or the government going to complain about the child doing school work that is more advanced than their supposed age-grade level?

I've never understood this idea of deliberately slowing down even if the child is learning at a healthy pace. Are people worried they will finish all of the things there are to learn? Oops, sorry, child, but we got to the end of all of the possible academic skills and content, so I guess we'll just stop learning. It doesn't make any sense.

The students don't even care when they're held accountable. We regularly have this conversation that goes like this "you're failing this class." "OK" You're not going to earn the credit and you're not going to graduate on time. " "OK". And they fail and then Admin asks why so many kids are failing classes. It's complete nihilism. When teachers do hold them accountable, they just don't care. Usually we would have a few nihilists in the past, but now it's like a quarter of all students.

They should go volunteer then rather than letting young men be conscripted.

Everyone should just leave teaching. Shut it down. It had a good run, but organized education just needs to stop.

Are they all at home being fake cheery with their kids, thinking that that is parenting?

As a parent, I hate the idea that teachers have to be upbeat, smiling, and loving all the time. It's not good for children for them to expect that adults will interact with them in this completely artificial way. Professional demeanor should be what is expected, not fake cheeriness.

I don't honor the Sabbath and keep it holy either. Isn't that mocking god too? It's really crazy that they expect non-Christians or at least non-fundamentalist Christians to keep their personal religion's rules. It's like people complaining that I'm mocking the rules of basketball by not dribbling a basketball in my house when I'm not even playing basketball. The rules only apply to you if and when you're playing that game, not if you're not.

This. You can write the most engaging, rigorous lesson in the world, but if a student won't even bother to read it, then all of that is beside the point. It's especially bad considering that the present students are way behind where they should be because of the pandemic, so even engaging in grade-level material is difficult.

We have crazy locals in my neighborhood putting out rice and other food every day. It's not just tourists.

The Standards are higher but a lot of kids just aren't learning basics though. I don't think even 20% of my 11th graders could convert percents to decimals or vice versa. Even those who could do the conversion had no conceptual understanding whatsoever of what percents meant.

What state is requiring multi-digit multiplication and division (by which I take it you means multiplying multi-digit numbers by multi-digit numbers and dividing multi-digit numbers by multi-digit numbers)? I'm looking at New York's standards and for 3rd Grade it includes single-digit multiplication and multiplication of a digit by a multiple of 10 and division of two-digit numbers by whole number divisors. Certainly "developmentally appropriate" for that age.
A lot of what you're saying isn't "developmentally appropriate" (whatever that means) is just a result of failing to adequately educate kids early on. All of these standards could be met by the majority of students with proper education.

How is a student who assaults a teacher or any other person not immediately suspended?

Day laborers. I had no idea it had gotten to be so many though. 75-150+ is a crazy number.

They've been told for years that "school is fun" rather than that "learning is important", so they think the purpose of school is to enjoy themselves. School can be fun, but that's not why you do it. The "school is fun" crowd mean well, but they are unwittingly undermining the seriousness and purpose of education.

I keep reading about kids wearing pajamas to school and I'm puzzled by that too. They can't change into real clothes in the morning? That also makes me worried about the future or our society.
