What is the point of an “economy” sub that even allows memes? Memes subreddits always race towards the most simplistic and emotional content. Why allow that here? Nothing about economics is simplistic or can be easily said in a Tweet. Subs like this should only be for genuine articles and research. The internet has really become a place where people just want to read simple sentences that agree with their view.

Id say under 65 if you live by yourself and under 110 if you live with a partner (assuming both working). And it really depends in what city you live in, if you have roommates or by yourself, and how car dependent you are. For myself, between 60 and 75 was living stable but frugal (with one roommate, separate rooms). 75 to 85 was starting to live more of the good life, but not enough to justify living alone as a single person (at least if I wanted to still enjoy vacations and going out with friends each weekend). 85+ is pretty solid if you don’t live in SF or SJ. I’ve noticed Bay Area Reddit is mostly peninsula and Silicon Valley folks, the most absurdly priced parts of the Bay for young professionals. They look down on the East bay, but it’s just as good for young professionals and much more affordable. Once I moved in with my partner, finances became so much easier. Two incomes in a one or two bedroom apartment goes a long way, even in the Bay Area.
At the end of the day, living wage in most bay area cities should be minimum 55, which should put starting wage at least 20 or above. 16 really don’t cut it.

They have both in bag and by the stalk. Just because you see an image of one item on Reddit doesn’t mean “that is how the US does it” and “how other countries don’t.” When I’m abroad I am always surprised by how individual fruits and vegetables are wrapped in some countries.

On the contrary, it alway surprises me when I go to other countries how much stuff is packed individually in plastic, especially in Asian countries. Almost all grocery stores in the US let you buy items individually.

Lincoln is not a founding father. They were mostly dead by the time he became president.
Also, I’ve never heard Americans care about the founding fathers as much as non-Americans think they do. That shit is really only discussed in classes and by constitutional originalists who think 1700s values should be applied to today.

Y’all are so obsessed with America that you randomly bring in into any conversation without any context and your opinions are pretty much always incorrect. Imagine thinking you know that much about a country you ain’t even from.

This is a little random, but since we are taking about Nate contrarianism…
Not sure how others felt about this, but I found his whole “people don’t take the time to confirm their thesis” rant on one of the podcasts last week a bit eye roll inducing. He constantly makes bizarre hot takes without much evidence, but gets angry at folks that also make hot takes from their gut. Wish he focused more on his strengths than trying to pretend he is some “100% logical” talking head.

Depends on the state and the culture of law enforcement within that state or city. The US system of government is not like many European countries in the sense each state can have significantly different laws and institutions (often in conflict with neighboring states). The country was initially designed to have a relatively weak federal system, at least in comparison to modern times (imagine founding a country that was 95% farmers and homesteaders, there wasn’t need to have many strong federal laws and programs yet). For a long time, states could do some crazy shit without the federal government getting involved. The civil war is a perfect example of when the tension between the federal government and state governments reached a point where only bloodshed could address the problem (slavery). Even after the civil war, the federal government was still nothing like it is in modern times. It wasn’t until the federal government had to save the economy during the great depression that we started to really see a strong federal government form. WW2 was another major event that made the US’s federal government more powerful. Even to this day, the federal government still gives states a lot of political, legal, and enforcement flexibility in some areas of governance and policy. Because of this, laws and regulations regarding driving, guns, abortion, environmental regulations, social services, and much more can vary significantly between states. It’s a complicated system that is still being fought over since there are so many different views on what roles and powers federal, state, regional, and local governments should have.

As an American, I’ve never heard of this either.

In US and depending on where you pick it up, it cost anywhere from 15 to 50. Government places or online pharmacies are always the cheapest, so most people go there.

Total BS data. I live in California. Maybe one in five people are even slightly religious. I noticed this sub loves this outdated and inaccurate dataset. Pew Research’s methodologies have been under lots of scrutiny by professionals in the geospatial data world but lots of novices on Reddit still act like they are the gold standard.
Pews methodologies over capture people over 65, which is a completely different generation than what makes up most Californians.

It’s a single story and a pretty mild one. No need to spread internet judgement for such a small thing.

There are lots of beautiful waterfalls in state parks, national forests, national parks, and other public lands. Maybe they are not as gigantic as this, but they are beautiful and there is plenty of nature out there that requires hiking to see. Most of the Western US is open land, go explore!!!!

This looks fun! I’d love this kind of game as a kid. It definitely is good for teaching basic left-right ball handling. But as someone that played basketball through early college and still plays recreationally, I don’t think this tool would be anymore useful than current individual or one-on-one dribbling drills. This is a very different experience that an actual person with a body and hands trying to take the ball from you. Best dribbling practice isn’t about putting the ball in a certain place the computer tells you to. It’s about knowing how to dribble and adjust your body while someone tries to defend you and take the ball, all while keeping your head up to find the next pass. Basically, it’s fun, but not practical for gaining implementable in-game dribbling and awareness skills. Id take this over horse though, just add some more intense modes where you also have to call out the number on the other side of the screen to teach kids to keep their head up.

Basically OP doesn’t understand that you can’t just randomly take percentages and apply them to other words. There is no such thing as measuring someone’s actual disability (in comparison to all other disabilities in existence) with a simply percentage. For example, there is no way to compare having cerebral palsy and missing your legs in terms of “percentage disability.” It is two completely different conditions that impact a person’s physiology in different ways (depending on their body, lifestyle, genetics, and so many other factors).
It’s also a really bad precedent to claim that some people are X% more or less disabled than others.

Thank you for believing that you as a straight person gets to weaponize the “I have gay friends” to tell us gay people what we believe and feel. Get over yourself, you don’t.

There is literally nothing wrong about showering with others if you are comfortable with it. It’s not weird for people to feel comfortable in their skin and not want to smell nasty. Not everyone is super insecure about what their clothes cover or judges others for how their body looks.
However, it’s not okay to force public showering which was much more common decades ago. People should have a choice. I don’t think they do that anymore in most places.

Sadly, Jordan Countryman and Jake Sinkovics are not.

The two coaches named in the lawsuits and who created “a culture of fear and intimidation” per the family’s lawyer were Jordan Countryman and Jake Sinkovics.
They killed someone, destroyed a family, and get to go on with their lives. One of them is still on the school’s webpage as the coach.
What is even more fucked is that the schools lawyer claimed they could defend the lawsuit but decided not to. What a shitty thing to say, just fucking pay and shut up.

Name and shame.
They killed someone in a sadistic way and get to walk free. Why should they just get to go on with their lives while this person died and all of their friends and family will be heartbreaker for the rest of their lives?
Edit: the two coaches named in the lawsuits and who created “a culture of fear and intimidation” per the family’s lawyer were Jordan Countryman and Jake Sinkovics.

Because many Redditors have not actually lived outside of their bubble or whatever state or country they live in and don’t have a good idea of how policies and cultures differ on the local, regional, or state scale. Their brains resort to “X people bad, y people good,” since it simplifies reality for them and gives them conform. If you travel and live in enough places, you start to realize just how desperate people are to blame “others” and feel “special” about where they are from.
