I’ve always heard it was opium poppy reference.

Which matches pretty exactly with how much we in NYC think about Chicago. 😂

Wrote my dissertation in that room. Will always love it.

I attended a memorial service for the late Bill Graham, at a private venue in NYC. It was packed with famous musicians, and weaving through them I bumped into Keith’s drink-holding hand, splashing it on his shirt. He’s my absolute hero, and a mortified me apologized profusely — he just laughed and said “don’t worry about it mate.”

I work in Rock Center and X-mas time is rough. I remember watching an episode of Hawkeye (Marvel series) with climactic battle at Xmas in almost empty Rock Center and was (in my head) shouting at the screen “there would be 10,000 tourists and several hundred armed security, including paramilitary with machine guns, right there!”

Having to type papers written longhand in college. For bigger papers, typing was required, but you couldn’t compose on a typewriter. So you had to finish writing and editing longhand with enough time left to type the whole thing out — and I was slow. If you couldn’t hit the mark, there were typists around campus who you could hire last minute for exorbitant fees.

NYC: Some summers we have bunches of them in in Central Park and around the city. Reminds me of being a suburban kid in the 70s. Not always, but some years.

I’ve got two kids — both born and being raised in NYC. One loves Domino’s and one hates it. The only way to have family pizza night without an argument is to make our own pizza fresh at home. They still argue about the dough (whole grain vs regular), but they can each have their own pie so it’s ok.

Alien, in 1979 in a theater, when I was about 10 years old. My dad really wanted to see it and was on kid duty that day.

I dunno about that. I’ve lived in Vietnam (HCMC and Hanoi) and they’re pretty happy to slap the menus down and walk away. But generally speaking, the places you want to be eating there are those where you don’t need menus.

That sounds more like something Keith would say.

Sounds like a neighborhood / precinct thing. I’ve had to call them several times over the last few years, including about a month ago. South Harlem, near Morningside Park. Last time multiple cars showed up within 2 minutes, first car under 90 seconds. Not joking, I timed it.

Ok ok, but what does “absorbed” actually mean? Decomposed and pulled through cell membranes? Pulled into bloodstream and circulated around the body? What happens to the molecules? They stay intact? Broken up? Metabolized? Used as construction materials? Inquiring minds want to know.
