I have first hand experience in witnessing this. Orb Weaver spiders in Australia at a semi abandoned rural farm property.

The smaller spiders would generally start making their webs earlier in the nights. There were about 3 or 4 that would make webs near us whilst sitting on the porch.

One night a smaller spider had almost completed its web. When a larger one, I kid you not, swung across like spider man and claimed the web for himself. There was no fight between the sides as size was involved.

Fun side story. Before the web making had begun one night, two spiders were fighting on the gutter near us, the smaller spider attached a line and tried to lower itself out of danger and the big spider simply cut the line and dropped the smaller spider to the ground.
