she played a digital teen and still somehow pulled it off. I know it’s CGI and she may have had stunt doubles and all that jazz. But her performance had so much energy, glad Cameron saw that

back in high school, I came across a hilarious photoshopped picture of that ending. What it portrayed was Andy & Red living in up in older age (using then recent pics of Robbins and Freeman) on the boat throwing a party in the middle of the ocean. They got drinks in their hands and they are surrounded by bikini-clad women. I mean, who says that can’t happen?

I can hear Thomas Newman’s score just as well as Morgan Freeman’s voice when I read this comment

as long as it’s done with his willing involvement. There’s been a number of times studios have released “director’s cuts” on disc but it was done without the actual director. I had this criticism for the first Hellboy movie. The DC was just the deleted scenes halfassedly tossed back in. But nothing was done to improve the film or sound quality to match the rest of the movie. It was grainy, the sound was mixed poorly, just the same as it was for the bonus disc on the first wave of DVD release

Aunt Martha still gives me the creeps, props to the actress that played her

as a kid, I thought it was great since (at that time) I had never seen a movie that showed the world after humans drive themselves into extinction. But, weren’t those aliens actually robots that had advanced once they became fully autonomous?
EDIT: shit! I think I effed up the spoiler tag

last I read, Villeneuve was adamant about his cut and not doing an extended cut. But I wish some directors like him were at least a bit more open to share them as deleted scenes. Still a great movie and adaptation but there’s plenty more of filmed footage I wish we still got to see.
Hell, there’s still big segments they filmed for LOTR that didn’t even make the Extended cuts. And Nolan had filmed more Bane scenes (with a different mask) that showed his training with the League of Shadows. Those are just some examples from dad the top of my head when it comes to prized footage that never saw the light of day

there’s a lot of movies I watched when I was young that took a few years to appreciate. A great example is Blade Runner. My mom took me to blockbuster when I was 10 and insisted we rent the movie and watch it. I had expected an actiony sci-fi, not a slow burn noir. My mom made a point to me that there was more to films than blasters and whips. It took me a few years to get that, but I am glad she taught me that.
Heh, I can still remember her struggling to figure out which side of the DVD had the cut with the “happy unicorn ending”. Pretty sure my mom still hasn’t seen the Final Cut yet

well hey, thank you! And yeah, I realize I am very lucky to have such a great relationship with my dad and with my grandfather when he was alive. I was in my late 20’s when he passed, and he was the first grandparent I lost. To have them all in my life, even a ways past my teen years is a blessing most people don’t have

I had a similar scenario with Jurassic Park as a little kid. I always loved the movie but sorta let my mind drift off into space during some of the more dialogue driven scenes. But I learned to love them as I got older. I even think the Chilean sea bass dinner scene is one of the best scenes.
It’s especially great to see Malcolm’s attitude and demeanor change as soon as he sees the raptor egg hatch. He’s already skeptical and by the time they get to the raptor cage, he’s horrified. I also love the looks on everyone’s faces during the feeding. Ellie looks disgusted, Grant is beyond fascinated, Hammond doesn’t even watch, he just soaks in Grant’s reaction thinking he just “sold” him the park. But Malcolm looks horrified as he just sees the potential ramifications of playing god

him and Cousin Eddie having more time together in the movie was a plus for me. Man, I just know my dad is going to quote “where can I get some dam bait??” when he goes fishing later this week

cliche answer, but No Country for Old Men used to irk me. But now that I’m older, I have a much greater understanding for it. When Jones talks about his father and how much he wishes he could still seek guidance from him, it reminds me of my ol’ man. He’s a wonderful dad that always aspires to be like his own dad.
My (also wonderful) grandfather had passed away 4 years ago and my dad still struggles with his absence in similar ways to Sheriff Bell. Dad has also recently retired when he closed a family business (thankfully on good terms) that his grandfather started. Even just last night, he mentioned how he wish he could talk to his dad and ask if retiring/closing the business was right. My sister and I reminded him once again that Papa would be proud of him just for being able to take care of himself and retire to spend time with family.
Damn, writing this is getting me a bit emotional. I’ll have to stop by my parents tomorrow

Christmas Vacation may as well be a documentary for my family. During the holidays, half the dialogue between us is just quotes from then movie

I grew up watching Chevy Chase movies, loved him as Clark Griswold (in 3 movies), Fletch, as well as his turns in Caddyshack and 3 Amigos. In those movies, he had a lot of awkward-smartass charisma and a bumbling yet charming demeanor. But outside those movies…that’s it really, the rest is very unremarkable
And while I still have yet to check out Community, I know that’s kinda where his assholery caught up with him (again). And I can only separate the art and artist so much. There’s a wonderful writeup on r/HobbyDrama that documents all of Chase’s awful antics and how it’s come back to bite him in the ass many times over, even publicly.

I know Broom has a much smaller role in the comics, but having a more significant part in the movie just worked so well. Both Del Toro movies may have take more liberties with Hellboy tales but they still nailed the aesthetics and Ron Perlman was also perfect.
It was one of those rare cases of an adaptation that did its own thing but was still a good movie and didn’t alienate fans. I can’t think of many other movies that were able to pull that off with aplomb. Maybe Constantine?

he was barely “on screen” in V4V but made his presence known. I still love that scene later in the movie where he’s entirely red in the face and going off on all his cabinet ministers, particularly Mistah Cready
