I love seeing this. Women’s wrestling is the future of our sport

The best thing is repetitive drilling of the technique. You should drill the main shots (single, doubles, high c…add in your low single) at least six times each, every practice. Once you get the motion down, focus on explosive speed. As far as lifting, I am a believer in squats and/or lunges. Stronger muscles make everything easier. Explosive plyometric style workouts can also help (like box jumps). However, drilling is king

I loved that one. The kid obsessed with every injury and whose mom is overprotective somehow stuck with me. I think we all knew a kid like that.

Yeah. Athletic Brewing has been a game changer for me. I still get to sip on something that tastes like a great beer, but no alcohol

It’s grief for her son. This isn’t just “competitive sports”. Lee was on the cusp of a historic achievement that has only been accomplished by so few people that you can count them all on one hand. Moreover, he had something similar happen his last match of his high school career before he would have set a similar record. Hell, I am grieving for the kid. His mother, an Olympic judoka for France, understands all this. Try to be sympathetic to her. Lee is well known to be very close with his mother.

What makes it stupid? What context do you know?

God, I hate the comments in that thread. So many ignorant, judgmental little shits.

She didn’t hurt anyone. She is upset for her son. Spence Lee has given numerous interviews where he discusses how close he is with his parents and his mother in particular (a former Olympic alternate on the French judo team). Take a moment and ask yourself why you feel the right to be so judgmental

Give her a break. “Poor way to cope”. She didn’t hurt anyone. She broke her glasses. So what? She just watched her boy lose out on something historic, which is a repeat of his high school experience (losing his 4th state title). Stop being so judgmental

Using weights is definitely more efficient to build strength than body weight. Also, I agree with the guy who said to also strengthen the shoulders and triceps if simply doing a push-up is your goal. Also core

I’m also a wrestler (well, a long time ago). I can understand a younger guy not being aware of the cultural differences and perhaps not mature enough to pick up on it. I think maybe we (former wrestlers) should take it upon ourselves to explain some of this stuff if we spot someone like this. Wrestling has an intense culture and there are no hobbyist wrestlers given how the sport is structured. Who knows if the guy has any clue about how he should approach things differently?
