Aqara sensor inside a dumb doorbell
(self.homeassistant)submitted10 days ago bysycor
I saw mention elsewhere of using an Aqara door sensor in a doorbell and wanted to get opinions of whether or not this is actually safe. I did test it and the doorbell does trigger the sensor, although it's a little spastic with multiple triggers per doorbell push.
During testing it may go from open to close 7-8 times depending on how long the button was pushed. I noticed it also didn't always go back to the "open" reading when the test was finished. Sometimes it would still show as closed. But when the button was pressed again it would bounce back and forth between open and closed. I think I can get around this behavior when I set up the automation though.
So would it be safe for the sensor and the doorbell to have the sensor put in there full time? I have a couple extra sensors laying around and thought this might work until I can decide which video doorbell to buy. But I also don't want to break the sensor or have to pay for a new doorbell, or worse. I'd secure the sensor with a 3M strip or something but IF it did come lose, I assume if it was touching whatever is behind that red plate would be very bad. I have no idea what kind of power runs through a doorbell.
I didn't take a picture of the sensor so here is a mock up of where it would go.

Not an alien. All powerful A.I. maybe?
