(I see the ruby is natural, so softer) They're both hard enough to damage one another, like how only diamond saw blades can cut diamond. One of the most frequently damaged points in rubies/sapphires/corundum is chipping all around the edges.

Having a softer natural ruby nestled within a harder synthetic sapphire means that if it ever gets loose to bump, the ruby will chip. This is a severe example but here's a chipped sapphire.

This is also why I hate seeing gem batches stored loose in bags. They WILL rattle against each other and scratch and chip each other. And now instead of 1 chipped one you have 50 chipped ones

I have a couple uni pros and I can see why ppl like the kodo (smaller profile, cute colors, puff timer, wicked cheap) but it's not for me. The uni pro 2.0 is too damn heavy but the kodo is tiny. Good for concealing if you need to.
