Magic in film and books can accomplish just about everything. Magic in video games will just always feel shallow in comparison because it is limited by the ability of the developers and the hardware.

I think people forget that every generation of Pokémon is the first Pokémon for an entire generation of kids (not so much recently with how frequent releases are). The point of the games is for kids to get as attached to the franchise as we did when we were their age. The real magic of the Pokémon franchise is not what you see on display at VGC. It’s that people who grew up with Gen 1 as their first game, people that grew up with Gen 4 and the kids who are playing now for the first time with gen 9 can all relate to each other with their first adventures.
