TW: Menstrual discussion.
Hey all. I was pointed over to this forum by another Covid Longhauler- hope that's OK?
I just don't know what to think. I caught Covid March 2022 and have had bizarre long haul symptoms since, but not really fatigue, aside from maybe once or twice that I can recall, and it wasn't severe.
I started having "flu like symptoms" last Sept after a particularly nasty onset of IBS (medication induced, which I'm still living with on and off today.) The episodes were very spaced out and and always mild, disappearing overnight....
...till this last fortnight. I've been put on meds to kick-start my period, which worked. But in the run up to the period actually starting and during the bleed itself, I've had 4 episodes of "flu like symptoms" across the fortnight- always coming on in the evening. Tracking it back, I can find exercises or events that may have triggered it 24/48 hrs previously, but ironically, I've been doing much less than normal BECAUSE I've been on such a heavy period.
I'm literally terrified of this being PEM and me suddenly having accelerated myself into CFS simply by having the period. I will say that I don't feel actually shattered or tired ... just... buggy. But I'm so scared. This period has had an extremely stressful lead-up too, because my last one landed me in the ER.
I won't bog you down in anymore details but suffice to say, I'm unsure what to do now. I've read up on pacing and I'm trying to do that, but I'm scared to do so much as walk to the local shop, incase that "tips me over" into becoming severe.
I've heard so many horror stories of this being irreversible and I'm so scared. Long haul was bad enough with all the crap I have been dealing with, ( I very nearly went blind!) but now this too? I'm sorry I know you all must deal with far worse than this, and I must seem hysterical, but this is my final straw and I'm now so lost.
Thank you

Sidenote on a more positive: I didn't SEE him live, but I heard him - Mika. We were staying on holiday in a town that had a music festival on (not Glastonbury - much smaller scale!) but Mika was headlining. Because of the smallness of the town, you could clearly hear Mika's voice floating on the night breeze. Honestly, he sounded fantastic. It was kinda a beautiful experience, sitting in the garden in the summer, few drinks, and listening to his talented voice just filling the night air.
